Do-it-yourself deck chair - country and beach options. Ideas for the implementation of simple and stylish designs (110 photos). How to make a sun lounger with your own hands. Design features, a variety of materials and shapes. Step-by-step description of the process of making a sun lounger

What is the perfect way to end a busy and tiring day outdoors? The best way to relax after working in the garden is to relax on a sun lounger with a glass of freshly squeezed juice in your hands. At the same time, it is very important that the deck chair fits perfectly into the environment and gives a feeling of peace and tranquility. Can't find the right outdoor furniture in stores? Then it's time to learn how to do it yourself.

Types of sun loungers for summer cottages

Before you make a deck chair yourself, you should decide on its type. However, experts advise not to experiment, using modern plastic materials as a basis, which are of poor quality and fragility. Better look at a quality wooden base with a flat, smooth surface. The only drawback of such property will be its large weight, but this problem can be solved by installing rollers on the legs.

Work materials

To make a deck chair out of wood with your own hands, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • a slab of glued wood, the thickness of which will be at least 2 cm;
  • boards (0.25 cm) and bars (0.45 × 0.45 cm) for finishing work and creating a frame;
  • electrical appliances (jigsaw, screwdriver, drill);
  • drills with a diameter of 0.4 cm;
  • 4 rollers 10 cm each;
  • corners (as for attaching a bed);
  • sanding sheets;
  • varnish and paint to decorate the structure and protect it from damage.

For homemade deck chairs, it is better to use sheets of spruce or other coniferous wood. They perfectly resist moisture and are not afraid of sudden changes in temperature. These materials can be bought directly from construction centers or made to order from a cabinetmaker (carpenter).

Overall dimensions of the product and getting started

You can make a wooden deck chair in accordance with the dimensions of your body or according to the individual sizes of future owners. And you can stop at the standard size - 60 × 190 cm. After the dimensions are determined, you can start working:

  • form the sidewalls from the bars and fold the frame of the structure, attaching the details with the corners;
  • finish each outer side of the finished frame with prepared boards;
  • proceed with further assembly.

Stages of creation do-it-yourself deck chairs

  1. Make blanks for the legs of the product using bars of the desired height. Usually their height is about 5-10 cm, but you can choose other sizes.
  2. At a distance of 5-7 cm from the edges of the long bars, fasten the legs using long screws.
  3. Attach a roller to the center of each leg. To do this, take screws of a smaller length (about 3 cm in length).
  4. Using an electric jigsaw, start cutting the lattice elements to create your own deck chair. The most suitable size for planks is 8x60 cm.
  5. Start screwing the planks to the frame of the lounger, using special spacers to create ideal gaps (1-2 cm will be enough).
  6. After assembling the structure, it must be sanded and painted in a suitable color.

If you decide to make a folding deck chair with your own hands, divide the wooden lattice into two parts, which can then be connected with ordinary door hinges. In this case, it is important not to forget about an important detail - the mounting plate. It should rest on a stand secured with screws.

Making a deck chair on a frame basis using dense fabric

Another popular and uncomplicated way to make a deck chair for a summer cottage with your own hands is a deck chair made of material on a frame. This is a light and comfortable country option, which can be turned from a sunbed into a chair and back with one movement of the hand.

You will need the following materials and tools:

  • two slats of wood 0.25 × 0.6 cm of different lengths (120 cm, 110 cm, 620 cm);
  • wooden slats 2 × 2 cm (65 cm - 1 pc., 2 pcs. 60 cm and 50 cm each);
  • high-quality dense material 2 × 0.5 m;
  • drill;
  • bolts and nuts of suitable diameter;
  • PVA glue;
  • sandpaper "zero";
  • round file.

Choose a durable fabric that is not afraid of exposure to sunlight and moisture. The ideal option would be jeans, canvas or canvas. Reiki is better to choose from oak, birch or beech (they have increased hardness and strength).

To make light sun loungers for giving with your own hands, you need to prepare the slats of the desired length and sand them.

Assembly steps

  • you need to drill holes suitable for the selected bolts on each long rail, always retreating 7-10 cm from their edges; all irregularities should be immediately sanded with a needle file until smooth surfaces are formed;
  • at the head of the frame (indicated in Figure "B"), several holes should be drilled at once for subsequent adjustment of the inclination of the seatback;
  • to create a seat, you need to make two more holes at the ends of long rails; their diameter must match the diameter of the prepared round rails (in this case, 2 cm); to keep the slats stronger, grease their ends with PVA glue;
  • combine the structure "A" and "C" with the screws passing through the upper holes, then in the same way combine the resulting module with the element "B";
  • stretch the fabric by wrapping the edges on the crossbars and making several seams with strong threads (this procedure can be done even before the final assembly of the product, then you can sew the material using a conventional sewing machine).

How to make a deck chair with your own hands even more comfortable?

To provide additional comfort to your sun lounger, a mattress should be laid on it. Take measurements of the finished design, buy enough fabric and filling material. You can sew a mattress in any known way.

Now you will be able to independently design a deck chair for your summer cottage, without resorting to the help of specialists and the advice of friends. There is nothing complicated in this matter, if you clearly follow the instructions and follow the information. Learn with us and improve your skills!

Arriving at the dacha, some begin to work hard - weed the beds, fight weeds and pests, and water. And some begin on the contrary, strenuously rest. In this case, a deck chair is indispensable. The word has French roots and means "long chair".

In fact, that's right - a long chair for relaxing, which is comfortable to lie on. How to make a deck chair with your own hands, with photos and illustrations, what to make it from, interesting designs and diagrams - later in the article.

Materials for the manufacture of sun loungers

As a material for a sun lounger, you can use:

  • wood, rattan;
  • plastic and pvc pipes;
  • metal;
  • the cloth.

The most popular due to their durability and environmental friendliness are deck chairs made of wood. Solid wood has only one drawback - the rather large weight of the product. However, by adapting small wheels to the sun lounger, the problem can be considered solved.

Plastic is light and cheap, easy to care for, but fragile and short-lived compared to wood or metal. Fabric loungers are comfortable, do not take up much space when folded and have a durable metal or wooden frame. Sometimes PVC pipes are used as a frame, which reduces the cost of construction, but makes it not so reliable.

Rattan is a high-quality, environmentally friendly material, a deck chair from which looks great in the country. Its minus is the very high cost of products from it. And few know how to weave rattan furniture.

To make a wooden lounger durable, the wood must be protected with impregnations and paints and varnishes. It is recommended to protect the product with impregnation before its assembly, and paintwork materials can be processed after assembly.

Chaise lounge from a wooden lattice

To make a sunbed you will need:

  • coniferous wood boards;
  • wooden beam;
  • jigsaw, hacksaw;
  • roulette;
  • manual frezer;
  • accessories - self-tapping screws, door hinges, metal corner.

The frame is assembled from a bar using metal corners, boards are attached from the outside from the sides. Next, legs are attached to the frame and boards. A lattice is cut out of a wood board with a jigsaw. The back is a separate element of the frame, connected to it with the help of door hinges.

A fastening bar with a stand is attached to the headboard with self-tapping screws. Wheels are attached to the legs from the side of the headboard if frequent transportation of the structure is required.

Prior to assembly, all elements are impregnated with a protective composition for wood, after assembly they are sanded and varnished with yacht varnish or covered with alkyd enamel. The second option is less desirable, because the paint will cover the texture of the wood, and the product will not look so interesting.

Fabric chaise lounge on the frame

Extremely comfortable, but short-lived design - the fabric quickly becomes unusable. The lounger is subject to restoration, it is only necessary to pull it in a new way with a cloth. For its manufacture, a frame from an old folding bed, or from a children's bed, is suitable. If there are none, it is quite possible to make the slats yourself.

Holes are drilled in the main frame, and cutouts are made in the second element so that it is possible to adjust the tilt of the back of the deck chair. To mount the seat, holes are drilled at both ends of the rails. Cross-sectional cross-section crossbars are inserted into the holes and sit on glue.

The seat is made in such a way that it sags slightly - it is much more comfortable to relax. The edges of the seat around the perimeter are sewn on a sewing machine. The round crossbar is wrapped in fabric and fixed on both sides with small nails.

There are many original ideas for arranging a sunbed, some require quite a decent investment of money, some options will cost almost nothing.

Not always investing a certain amount means that the deck chair will turn out better and better than made from improvised materials. In many ways, success depends on the thoughtfulness of the design and on the skill of the one who assembles the product. Buy ready-made, or make a deck chair yourself - everyone decides to the best of their financial capabilities and skills to make something on their own.

DIY sun lounger photo

Chaise lounges are comfortable light chairs that are often equipped with places to relax. They are installed on beaches and near outdoor pools. To give this item may be part of the exterior. On it you can relax after a busy tiring day, swim in the gentle rays of the sun or take a nap in a shady place away from human eyes. In this article, we will look at how to make a deck chair with our own hands from wood, show drawings, as well as photo and video instructions.

To begin with, you should decide on the type of deck chair. It can be made from wood, aluminium, plastic and synthetic fabrics. We will focus on a practical and easy-to-manufacture option - a deck chair made of wood.

Wood for the product and its design is selected depending on:

  • your preferences;
  • the availability of improvised materials;
  • financial opportunities;
  • style of your garden.

When choosing wood for a future deck chair, you should take into account the physical and mechanical properties of certain types of wood. For example, beech, ash, larch or oak will last the longest. These are strong and durable materials, in addition, they have an aesthetic appearance. But this type of wood is quite expensive and exceeds other types of wood in weight, which makes it more difficult to move finished products.

A deck chair made with your own hands will not only save you money, but also ennoble the garden, give it exclusivity. There is a wide variety of wood deck chair designs.

A folding chair is more convenient, as it will not be difficult to move it, and in rainy weather it can be easily folded and hidden (which is important for wooden products). With just one movement, you can turn a chaise longue into a comfortable chair.

materials

So, from the materials we need:

For back legs:

  • 2×4×122 cm - 2 pcs.
  • 2×4×61 cm - 1 pc.
  • 2×4×65 cm - 1 pc.
  • 2×6×61 cm - 1 pc.

For seat legs:

  • 2×4×112 cm - 2 pcs.
  • 2×4×60 cm - 4 pcs.
  • 2×4×57 cm - 1 pc.
  • 2×6×57 cm - 1 pc.

Back support:

  • 2×4×38 cm - 2 pcs.
  • Wooden rod with a diameter of 1.2 cm, length 65 cm - 1 pc.

Fabric seat:

  • Fabric 137×116 cm.
  • Wooden rod with a diameter of 1.2 cm, length 55.9 cm - 2 pcs.

To fix details:

  • Bolts and nuts - 4 pcs.
  • Washers (under the bolt head and nut) - 8 pcs.
  • Joiner's glue.
  • Screws.

Instruments:

  • Drill.
  • Sandpaper or grinder.
  • Needle file of round section.

Preparatory processes

All parts must be pre-treated, namely, sanded and treated with special impregnations to protect wood from corrosion. Then the product will serve you much longer.

As can be seen in the drawing, crossbars are installed at the bottom of the seat legs, thanks to which the position of the backrest is fixed. If you plan to install only one plank, you should first make cuts in place of the planks: 20 cm from the edge, then 25, 30 and 35. You also need to make holes for the bolts on the back frame, retreating 41 cm on each side. On the seat frame should retreat 43 cm from the top. And on the support of the back of the deck chair, make a hole in the center from the edges.

Frame assembly

First of all, the back frame is assembled. A plank with a size of 2 × 6 × 61 cm will carry the main load, so special attention should be paid to its fastening. Its fixation should be performed as securely as possible. Be sure to leave a gap of 1 cm between the two planks. It will be necessary for attaching the fabric.

Based on the above diagram, assemble the seat frame. After that, fold the back and seat frame. First, on the back frame from the top bar, drill holes on both sides at a distance of 41 cm, and on the seat 43 cm. Fasten them with bolts and a nut. Between the racks of the frame, be sure to lay the washer.

Nuts may loosen during use. To prevent this, tighten one more locknut. Nuts can also be planted on paint or glue Moment. To adjust the free play, first tighten the nut and then loosen it slightly. Then let the glue/paint dry.

Now you can install the back support. Fasten the planks to the back with bolts and use washers in the same way. A large dowel is pressed into the prepared hole in the planks using glue.

The fabric for the seat should be strong enough. Suitable canvas, tarpaulin, jeans and other types of fabrics resistant to wear.

The fabric should be folded in half and stitched, stepping back 1.5 cm from the edge. Then we turn it out. We bend the edge of the fabric for the rod, which fixes the fabric seat between the slats, and stitch it. We do the same with the reverse edge.

Then the edge of the fabric should be inserted between the slats and the rod should be installed in the bend. Thus, the seat will be firmly fixed, but at the same time it will not be difficult to remove it for washing.

Final Processes

At the final stage of manufacturing a deck chair, it is desirable to eliminate the remaining or formed irregularities and roughness with a needle file or sandpaper. After that, if desired, the product can be covered with paint or varnish.

Of course, using this construction, you have many opportunities to improvise. For example, instead of a fabric seat, you can simply install more slats all the way to the joint. It depends on your preference.

This design is completely different from the previous one. But nevertheless, making it with your own hands is not at all more difficult. Such a deck chair is not very convenient to move, but, with careful execution and careful processing, it is quite aesthetic and easy to perform.

Of the tools we need:

  • drill;
  • sandpaper;
  • saw;
  • roulette;
  • marker.

From materials:

  • 2.5 × 8 × 60 cm - 13 pcs. (slats for sitting);
  • 5×10×21 cm - 2 pcs. (longitudinal bars for the frame);
  • 5×10×50 cm - 2 pcs. (cross bars for the frame);
  • 5×10×35 cm - 6 pcs. (chaise lounge legs);
  • 5×10×88 cm - 2 pcs. (back of the product);
  • 5×10×39 cm - 3 pcs. (back of the product);
  • 2.5 × 8 × 88 cm - 6 pcs. (slats on the back frame);
  • 5×10×60 cm - 1 pc. (beam for fixing the back in the desired position);
  • wood screws;
  • studs for fixing;
  • paint or varnish;
  • wood impregnation.

The first step is to process the wood. Then you need to make a frame. To do this, take 2 longitudinal beams of 215 cm each and 2 transverse beams of 50 cm each. We connect them with screws.

Next, take 13 planks of 60 cm each and fix them on the frame with self-tapping screws, leaving a gap of 1 cm between them. To make the distance even, you can use centimeter spacers in the form of planks. Thus, we got the seat.

The next step is to install the legs of 35 cm from the timber (the length of the legs can be changed as desired). From the side of the seat, to strengthen the structure, we make double legs.

Next, we make the back of two bars 88 cm long and three bars 39 cm. The back frame should freely enter the main structure, it is also necessary to leave a small gap between these blanks.

Now fix the back boards in the longitudinal direction. The end boards can be rounded to give them a more aesthetic appearance.

So that the backrest can easily rise and fall, make through holes at a distance of 9 cm from the edge of the seat through both structures. Fastening is carried out using special studs.

After that, at the base of the deck chair, you need to make 2 grooves into which the support bars will be placed. Due to this, the back can be fixed in different positions. One groove is made at a distance of 9 cm from the pin, 5 × 10 cm in size. The next groove is 20 cm from the previous one 5 × 5 cm.

A bar 60 cm long is laid horizontally in the first groove, which will hold the back in the desired position. If you want to change the position of the backrest, then the beam is shifted into the second groove.

Following such a scheme, the process of a wooden deck chair is practically completed. It remains only to sand the structure, varnish it or paint it.

original ideas

We bring to your attention a review of the original design of the manufacture of a deck chair. For its manufacture, logs Ø75–120 mm are required. To do this, you need to prepare the following tool:

  • logs;
  • electric saw;
  • drill;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • staples;
  • set of drills.

The manufacturing process is as follows:

  • First, cut logs 45 cm long.
  • After you form the layout of the future design. To do this, take electrical tape and use it to draw a contour directly on the floor.

  • Next, make holes in the chopped logs.

  • All elements are interconnected. 4 long self-tapping screws are screwed into each log. You can use a socket wrench to tighten them.

  • Now you can turn the resulting design and test it. If it is unstable, then eliminate this defect.
  • To make the chaise longue more stable, fix the brackets on the back side.

Although this work process is quite troublesome and time-consuming, the result will please your eye. At the same time, such a deck chair will be a great addition to a summer cottage.

If you have your own ideas for making a deck chair, then write about them in the comments to this article. If you find it difficult to come up with your own design, then use the drawings below. We hope the information provided will help you make your own deck chair.

The presented drawings will help you design a deck chair with your own hands:

The summer cottage should not be considered only as a place of permanent labor "slavery". In the country and during a country holiday, you will need a folding chair - a deck chair. This type of furniture is comfortable, concise and functional. A folding chair can be made with your own hands and used for a pleasant pastime.

Helpful information

Two French words longue and chaise, combined into one - a deck chair, the literal translation of which is "long chair". Most often, such pieces of furniture can be found on the beaches of seaside resorts, along the sides of the pools. You can also use a sun lounger in summer cottages, on long trips, on picnics, etc.

A sun lounger should not be confused with sun loungers, which are a favorite place to get a tan near the sea. The difference between these two types of furniture lies in the names themselves. A lounger is furniture for lying, in fact, it is a bed, only less comfortable. This design is lower and wider than a deck chair.

"Long chair" - an object with a back, like a chair and with an elongated seat - a place to place the legs in full length. Chaise lounges can have, like armchairs, armrests, the back can take different positions by adjusting the angle of inclination.

Functions

The popularity of a sun lounger among vacationers is associated with its functional features. Chaise longue is:

  1. Means for resting the spine and adjacent muscles. In the reclining position, the back muscles relax as much as possible, which are heavily loaded on the beds by summer residents.
  2. Comfortable furniture, easily foldable and portable (or carried) from one place to another.
  3. A piece of furniture in which the inclination of the backrest is adjustable from a sitting to a lying position.
  4. Part of the design solution for a summer cottage, veranda or terrace. A country house, near which such furniture stands, looks beautiful and stylish.
  5. A place for relaxation of people of different builds. Reliable designs can withstand up to one hundred kilograms of live weight.

Constructions

There are several design features of sun loungers:

  • classic folding (with folding back);
  • anatomical;
  • suspended;
  • in the form of a rocking chair.

Traditionally, sun loungers are a structure in the form of a chair-bed, the upper part of which is similar to the back of a chair (armchair), and the lower part is like a small sofa. The advantage of such models is the ability to change the position of the back.

To facilitate the movement of wooden deck chairs, some types are designed with wheels that easily deliver them to any place of rest.

The modern industry produces anatomical deck chairs, whose manufacturers seek to reproduce the natural curves of the human body. How comfortable and practical they are can be judged by people who have bought such pieces of furniture.

Some designers like to experiment with the shape of sun loungers, but not everyone can afford to buy such models. If you are ready to impress your guests with the bizarre forms of such furniture, then you will have to shell out a fairly large amount.

Suspended fastening of the deck chair provides it with another additional function - the ability to swing. This design is attached to a metal frame with a reliable lock, so this one is very reliable. This structure is installed in a shady place (under house sheds or near large sprawling trees) or an additional detail is built in its upper part in the form of a small visor. Swinging in such a deck chair is a real pleasure!

The stable and solid support of the “long chair” can be replaced with rounded hoop legs. In this case, the deck chair will act as a rocking chair. In this model, there is also no binding to a specific place, so this chaise lounge can be easily folded and moved to another part of the suburban area or the place where you settled down to relax.

Connection of parts

The appearance of the "long chair" may vary depending on how the connections of the structural parts are made.

Based on this parameter, sun loungers can be divided into structures:

  1. In the form of a monolith (a rigid, durable connection of all components. In this model, it is impossible to change the angle of the backrest and it is difficult to carry the deck chair due to its heavy weight).
  2. Monolithic-mixed (the presence of insert elements gives the structure a more beautiful appearance, but still does not add mobility).
  3. Folding (the use of special mechanisms and units gives such sun loungers the possibility of easy and quick transportation, changing the position of the back).
  4. In the form of a frame with fabric (strong fabric is stretched over an aluminum, plastic or wooden frame).

A sun lounger can be purchased at a store, or you can make it a real "landmark" of your suburban area by applying your skills and efforts. The independent construction of this piece of furniture is within the power of even the most inexperienced needleworkers.

Choosing a material

The material that lovers prefer to lie on a deck chair is wood. Wooden sun loungers are environmentally friendly, they are easy to operate and not too expensive.

In addition to wood for a deck chair, completely different materials can be used:

  • plastic;
  • rattan, vine, hemp;
  • wooden pallets;
  • logs;
  • corrugated cardboard;
  • fabric with a wooden or metal frame;
  • plywood.

Characteristics of materials

Each of these materials has its pros and cons.

Table: characteristic features of materials for a sun lounger

Chaise lounge material Advantages disadvantages
Wood
  1. Environmental friendliness
  2. Ease of maintenance
  3. Availability
  4. low price
In the absence of special processing, it rots, there are no many options for the shape of the structure.
MetalStructural strength and lightness at the same time. The low weight of the structure is achieved most often when using an aluminum frame with a fabric middle.It is necessary to have the ability to weld when creating a frame; without impregnation with anti-corrosion agents, it will not last long.
PlasticLightness, unusual design solutions, does not require maintenance costs. Low price.Plastic structures are not very durable, they do not withstand the aggressive influence of the climate. It's not easy to build on your own.
Bamboo, rattan, hemp, vineMobility, environmental friendliness, small weight.The construction of such pieces of furniture requires skills in weaving, they can dry out under prolonged exposure to the sun, and are not resistant to atmospheric changes. High price.
Improvised means (pallets, logs, remnants of bars and boards)Cheapness of raw materials. Sometimes these materials are completely free. You can make a model "for yourself", having built a real exclusive.Requires the application of skillful hands and skills in craftsmanship. With an inept needlework process, they can be fragile and will not last long.
CardboardAvailability, economy, ease of manufacture.Resistance to moisture and heavy loads.
TextileEnvironmental friendliness (in the case of using natural material), mobility, lightness.Fragility, instability to withstand heavy weight. The fabric may fade in the sun. Discomfort may appear when using unnatural materials.

The choice of material depends on the chosen model, on material possibilities, as well as on the functions that you want to endow with a hand-made product.

When buying material for the construction of a deck chair, do not try to save much, because your safety and comfort depend on the strength of the structure. If you like fabric coverings, get a durable and natural material - tarpaulin, linen, cotton with a strong weave of threads, denim, canvas. Also use reliable fasteners for connecting parts - thick ropes, carabiners, etc.

A wicker product will last longer if you prepare the vine correctly or buy raw materials for weaving from trusted manufacturers. This material is quite expensive, but it will be nice to use such a design for a long time. When preparing raw materials for weaving on your own, try to study all the information about this or consult the craftsmen. If you have macrame skills or know how to knit, then you can weave the central part of the deck chair from strong threads.

The metal tubes that you want to use to create the frame should not be very worn, check them for rust. Processing with special tools will help extend the life of metal pipes. Old frames (for example, from folding beds) or cut pipes of the required size can be used.

Wooden components must be perfectly smooth, so do not be too lazy to sand them in advance. When buying wooden raw materials, pay attention to the fact that the material is free of resinous areas, otherwise the rest on the chaise longue with resin may be ruined.

Improvised materials should not be chosen based only on their cheapness. Be sure to think about the safety of their use. The environmental factor should also be taken into account.

Making drawings

In order for the structure to be durable and the product to look great (without distortions and other flaws), you must first build a diagram and make a drawing of the future structure.

Internet resources offer a large number of ready-made schematic images of sun loungers with dimensions. You can use them by adjusting the parameters to suit your idea or take the whole drawing.

We prepare tools and count the amount of material

Materials and tools for self-made deck chairs may vary depending on the model chosen.

Let's give an example for a deck chair made from mixed materials of wood and fabric. For a fabric deck chair with a wooden frame, you need to prepare:

  • two meters of durable fabric (denim, canvas, canvas) fifty centimeters wide;
  • pairwise wooden slats 0.25 by 0.6 cm (respectively, this length is 110, 120 and 62 centimeters);
  • slats made of wood (oak, birch, beech) 2 by 2 centimeters (one 65 cm long and two 50 cm each)%
  • PVA glue or any other furniture glue.

Of the tools useful:

  • drill;
  • electric or hand saw;
  • sandpaper with the smallest section;
  • file;
  • square;
  • roulette;
  • nuts, bolts of suitable sizes or other fasteners.

If you build a deck chair from other materials, the amount of consumables and tools will be different. A welding machine, a grinder will be needed for metal products, rattan, jute, vine constructions will “require” the use of special weaving devices.

Before starting work, try to find as much information as possible on making deck chairs with your own hands, and only then get to work.

How to make a deck chair out of wood with your own hands: the progress of work

Let's talk about the process of building a "long chair" from a wooden material. Wood is the most affordable and environmentally sound material. It can be freely purchased at no extra cost. Many amateurs can create something with their own hands to work with wood.

So, it's time to move from words to deeds.

Stage 1. Marking and preparation of the frame components.

To do this, we need to saw off four boards with the following parameters: 400 * 2.5 * 8 cm. We will also need three bars 400 * 5 * 10 cm. We also need two fixing pins.

It is advisable to sand all wooden parts of the frame and cover with a special impregnation against rotting and mold.

Stage 2. Frame construction.

This frame is made of a wooden beam according to the scheme.

Stage 3. Making a place for sitting / lying.

First, cut the boards sixty centimeters. The number of such blanks can be different and depends on the size of the gap between the boards. Usually, for a standard deck chair size of 60 * 200 cm, it takes about thirteen boards while maintaining a distance between them of one centimeter.

Using a screwdriver, we attach the boards to the frame, trying to maintain the parallel arrangement of the wooden segments.

Stage 4. Leg mounting.

We choose the length of the legs at 35 cm, but you can make the deck chair a little lower (optional).

We duplicate the wooden bars of the required length and fix them at the head and at the feet. In principle, from the side of the head, the legs can be made single.

Stage 5 Creation of the back.

The back frame should freely enter the structure that we built earlier. We make the frame with the following parameters - two parts of 88 cm each and three parts of 39 cm each. Do not be surprised that there are gaps around the perimeter of the backrest inserted into the frame, this is necessary for free reclining of the backrest.

On the frame of the back we fasten the slats of the desired length. This can be done across, both on the main part, and along, as in the figure. Try to drown the screws in the "body" of the tree so that the use of the sun lounger is safe. To improve the aesthetic appearance, the upper part of the rails can be rounded off.

Stage 6 Attaching the back to the base.

To firmly fasten the back and base together, you need to drill through holes in these parts, stepping back from the edge 9 cm down. We insert the mounting studs and fasten them.

Stage 7. Construction of the support mechanism.

For support, you need to cut grooves in the main structure - two pieces on each side. The first is at a distance of nine centimeters from the hairpin with dimensions of 5 by 10 cm. The second notch is cut out twenty centimeters from the first, its dimensions are slightly smaller - 5 by 5 cm.

The backrest position is adjusted in this model using a wooden beam 60 cm long, which is installed in the first (half-sitting position) or second (reclining position) grooves.

You can adjust the inclination of the back using other simple mechanisms. For example, according to the principle of folding a clamshell.

Stage 8. Product finishing.

Finishing work can be carried out according to your ideas or use the materials that you have available. Painting, varnishing, decoupage - all this will change the appearance of the deck chair and increase its service life.

There are other ways to make a sun lounger with your own hands. You can use a metal frame from an old folding bed and build a deck chair with your own hands. A detailed description of all the manipulations is in a fascinating video on this topic.

Finishing

The main thing that needs to be foreseen in the process of self-manufacturing a deck chair is an increase in its service life. This can be facilitated by special processing of materials that were used in the construction of the structure. To do this, you need to use a grinder, sandpaper, anti-corrosion and antiseptic agents, which you can choose individually for a particular model.

Such processing can be carried out in advance, without assembling the structure. It is possible to carry out this “event” after the construction of the sun lounger is completed. In this case, the protection of materials will be combined with decorative work: painting, varnishing. Choose high-quality covering materials, then your “long chair” will last a long time and will delight you with its beauty.

What else can be done to change the look of a sun lounger? You can use textile elements: pillows, mattresses. It is best to make them removable so that you can put them away when it rains and wash them when dirty. Another option is to make mattresses and pillows from washable fabrics.

Choose the color of the fabrics at your discretion, but it is better to use strong and dense. Another criterion for choosing a material is that it should be hypoallergenic and pleasant for the body, because relaxing on a sun lounger is associated with open areas of the body. You can build a pillow-roller and strengthen it at the top of the deck chair for maximum relaxation of the cervical spine.

A canopy in the form of an awning and a light transparent fabric that protects vacationers from insects will not interfere with the appearance of the deck chair and improve its functional characteristics.

An additional element in the form of armrests will add comfort to vacationers.

Finished product care

The durability and functionality of a deck chair will largely depend on proper care for it. What can be included in such manipulations:

  • timely painting;
  • renovation of the lacquer;
  • lubrication of backrest folding mechanisms;
  • washing of textile elements.

A do-it-yourself deck chair is best put indoors for the winter. This will help you enjoy the product for many years.

Self-creation of a deck chair is a slow process, but creative and interesting. The construction of a portable comfortable place to relax will be a pleasant experience, and the result will delight you and your guests for many years. The main thing is to responsibly approach the manufacture of a deck chair with your own hands.

Surely the word "chaise longue" in your imagination appears a pleasant picture of relaxing in the sun. But, sometimes, we overpay in stores for a “comfortable” seat. In this article we will tell you how to make a deck chair with your own hands. Take a look at this photo of a sun lounger and you won’t say that this is homework, not factory work. Making a deck chair is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Types of sun loungers

Before you get started, you need to understand what kind of deck chair you need. Depending on the type of seat device, frame, we can say that there are several types of homemade sun loungers.

Chaise lounge with a monolithic frame

All parts are connected to each other and are inseparable. This type is very reliable and can withstand even heavy weights. However, there are also disadvantages: you can’t change the angle of the backrest, and you won’t be able to compactly fold such a deck chair.

Monolithic chairs with special inserts can fit perfectly into any interior. However, inserts make the design less reliable.

If you want the chaise lounge to change its position freely, then you need a portable design. It's also ideal for travel as it can easily be folded into the trunk of a car.

Blueprints

One of the most important components of the successful creation of this seat is the drawings for the manufacture of a deck chair. You should select competent drawings, where all the small details are written. If you are new to this business, it is recommended to choose not very complex designs so that the deck chair lasts as long as possible, and you do not damage your health.

Detailed instructions for a sun lounger with your own hands

First, determine the size of your sun lounger. As a rule, the standard size is 60 * 190 centimeters. However, you can choose any other option that will fit your dimensions.

After determining the dimensions, you can safely proceed to the manufacture of the seat. We will assemble the base from the prepared wooden beams. Between themselves, the bars must be connected by means of metal corners to assemble the bed.

Depending on the size you choose, you should prepare the legs for the deck chair. As a rule, their size varies from five to ten centimeters in height. At a short distance from the edge of the base, you need to attach the legs. Use longer screws to secure.

In the center of all legs, with the help of screws measuring 3-5 centimeters, it is attached along the roller. Then prepare the planks. Cut out planks with a jigsaw with a format of 8 * 60 centimeters. Next, screw these strips to the base with a distance of 1-2 centimeters between them.

After you have assembled the frame, treat the deck chair with special products to keep your piece of work for years to come. Once the products are dry, cover the deck chair with varnish or paint.

Chaise longue with fabric

In addition to the usual wooden deck chair, you can make a seat with fabric. For its production, we will also need wood blocks, durable fabric, fastening materials, an air drill, glue and sandpaper.

The best fabric option in this case is denim or canvas, as they do not fade in the sun, and they are also not afraid of wet weather. When choosing such fabrics, your deck chair will retain a presentable look for many years.

Durability

In order for your deck chair to remain in working condition longer, you should treat it with antiseptics and impregnations intended for wood during and after its manufacture. This protects your deck chair from various bugs, moisture and rapid destruction.
