What can make your home even more unique than a custom painting? Decorating your home without the help of professionals is not as difficult as you think, however, minimal creative skills should still be present. To test your skills, make a couple of sketches on a piece of cardboard before moving on to painting the walls.
How to prepare a wall for painting?
Chose a central location for your masterpiece? Let's figure out how to prepare a wall for painting. First, clean the surface of any defects and old coating. Degrease a smooth wall with acetone or a special primer, and then level it with putty or plaster. We prime the leveled area to increase the adhesion between the wall and the paint, and paint with the “background” color we like.
Wall paints
The wall is ready, the head is full of ideas, which means it's time to choose paints for painting the walls. Among the variety of modern choices, professional artists prefer acrylic water-dispersed paints for wall painting. Usually they are sold in sets, but more often than not, everyone buys a palette of yellow, green and brown, as mixing them results in all natural shades. Do not forget about white paint - it allows you to create all the necessary color transitions and mask the mistakes in the work.
Wall painting with acrylic is carried out with brushes with artificial pile or foam rubber. The width of both depends on the required stroke width.
Wall painting technique
The wall painting technique depends on the paint you are working with. Once acrylic is chosen, you can create different paint effects by diluting it with water: a strong dilution will make the acrylic more transparent, which is usually the case with watercolors, while a thick and undiluted acrylic will give a gouache texture. You can draw by hand or use a stencil. The technology of wall painting also depends on the paint and the desired effect: paint is applied to a wet wall for greater absorption, as is done in the “fresco” technology, but hand or screen painting is more often used on a dry surface.

If you bought or inherited a house in the village and want to use it for a full-fledged family vacation in nature, but there is no money for major repairs and modern design yet - original wall painting with your own hands is the best way to update the walls, and at the same time get creative (you can even children).
Our drawing is fantastic dandelion, invented and drawn independently, first on a piece of paper, and then on the wall. Even a person who has never tried to draw and does not have special skills can make such a simple “cartoon” drawing.
Necessary materials
- acrylic paint - about 200 ml;
- brushes: wide and thin;
- colored pigment. For our drawing, it took blue, orange and brown;
- jars or plastic bottles for diluting paint;
- simple pencil and eraser.
Preparatory stage
At the preparatory stage, you will need to choose the drawing itself - draw it or find it on the Internet and determine where it will look most appropriate. It should be simple enough to execute - if you are drawing for the first time, you can choose a small schematic drawing of a flower or animal. Such a drawing is also beneficial from the technical side - you don’t have to worry if the line goes the wrong way, it will be easy to fix it and everything will look like it was intended. With the help of such a pattern, you can even mask minor wall defects - scuffs, cracks, etc.
We prepare the wall and materials
First of all, you need to prepare the background for the picture. To do this, you can repaint the entire wall with acrylic paint - when the wall is even, it is much easier to draw on it. But this stage is not necessary, especially if you want to hide the flaws of the wall with the help of a drawing. Our drawing was made on a wall whitewashed with limestone.
Acrylic paint and pigments for drawing can be bought at any hardware store. There you can also consult with the seller about how much paint and what colors of pigments you need for the drawing. For our dandelion, it took 200 ml of Polifarb paint. It is easily mixed with pigments and diluted with water, not a solvent, which greatly facilitates the work. You can dilute it in half-liter glass jars, or plastic bottles cut in half. Brushes can also be purchased at a hardware store - it is best to take artificial and narrow ones. In this case, the size of the drawing should be taken into account - the larger it is and the fewer thin lines it contains, the more brushes will be needed.
Making a sketch on the wall
Drawing a picture on the wall begins with a sketch.
To do this, you need a pencil - preferably the same color as the drawing, but you can take a simple one. Now you can start drawing a sketch on the wall - it is needed so that the lines of the drawing come out beautiful and clear. The more detailed you draw a sketch, the easier it will be to paint with paints. To do this, we mark the boundaries of the picture on the wall and draw a plot in them. In the sketch, first draw the large main parts - in our drawing it is a dandelion leaf, and then smaller details. To transfer a sketch from paper to a wall, you can also break the drawing into cells and transfer it to the wall in parts. If the wall is perfectly flat, you can correct unsuccessful lines with a large and soft eraser.
Cooking paint
When the sketch is ready, you can start coloring. First of all, you need to mix the paint with the main shade of the pattern to the density of low-fat sour cream.
Drawing on the wall
You need to start painting the wall with your own hands with a wide brush and light shades, gradually moving to dark colors and thin lines. In the process of work, it is sometimes necessary to move away from the wall and evaluate the drawing from a distance.
Since acrylic paint dries very quickly, do not leave the brushes in the air. To soften the borders of the picture, you can take a foam rubber stamp brush and erase the sharp border with the background color.
This technique will be needed if you decide to take a more complex drawing, but while drawing a dandelion, this will not be necessary.
It is better to apply paint in stages, without overworking, otherwise all enthusiasm and inspiration may disappear from fatigue. Breaks will also allow you to see mistakes, evaluating the work with a “new” look.
We draw the thinnest lines last with a small brush.

However, often the question rests on the inability of a person to draw, and then any attempt turns into something unimaginable and the wallpaper has to be repainted. Fortunately, the current needlewomen have found an approach to this problem.
The simplest drawing is always flowers, if they are also “empty”, then the whole process becomes much simpler. Therefore, you can draw a very summery, bright and sophisticated dandelion on the wall. The beauty of this flower on the wall is not only in its elegance, but also in the ability to additionally decorate the flower. That is, you can simply draw a dandelion, or you can draw a dandelion and its fluff around the flower. In short, it's all about fantasy.
The style load of a dandelion can also be different. Do you miss summer and brightness? Use bright rich colors, if you want something depressing or poetic, then you need pastel languid and dark shades.
What do you need to paint on the wall?

3. Krasochka, it is advisable to take something more serious than watercolors, but if the choice is not great, then on a temporary basis you can even take gouache. Although later you will still need to cover the drawing with acrylic or oil paints, so take care of this in advance.
4. Thin brush for drawing details. Do not forget that the details are somehow large, which means that the brush should be medium in size and with a thin tip, it is better to take a set so that you can use the right brush where you see fit, and not suffer with one.

How to draw?
In order to draw a beautiful flower, you first need to outline the stem line. Since the flower on this stem will be voluminous, you need to bring the stem to about the middle of the wall, lower is possible, higher is impossible. To make the stem even, its contours must be glued with adhesive tape, and already in the middle of it, calmly decorate the future stem.
Then you need to draw the dandelion core. To do this, you need to draw an oval that is extended to the sides, and to demonstrate some stamens, draw a few lines on the sides of the core.
Now you need to start drawing fluffy petals. To do this, you need to take a sponge and blot its corner into the paint. Then gently apply the sponge to the wall with an angle towards the core. To make the air threads in the petals even more airy, you can stretch them out to the sides with a brush.
The dandelion should have a fairly voluminous round cap, then it will not look strange.
The heroes of the story moved into a new apartment and decided to decorate the walls. After analyzing all the possible options (or drawing a picture using stencils), we came to the conclusion that creating comfort in an apartment with bare walls is an expensive pleasure.
The idea came to my mind - to make drawings on the walls with my own hands. The choice fell on dandelions.
Having no art education, but doing everything carefully and from the heart, the guys got a beautiful dandelion on the wall. Dandelion is very airy, it gives comfort and a warm reminder of summer.
A bonus for the owners of the apartment was praise from the guests, as well as a sense of pride for the work done.
And now, in order, how did the drawing of a dandelion on the wall
The following tools were used for this work:
1. Paint
2. Masking tape
3. Thin brush
4. Foam sponge (you can take a sponge for washing dishes)
When all the necessary tools and materials for work are ready, you need to decide on the place and size for the future dandelion drawing. In our case, the dandelion divided two zones in the kitchen - working and dining.
Sticking masking tape vertically, we create the outline of the future dandelion stem. The distance between the two stripes is the thickness of the stem. At the top of the “stem”, we also create a round dandelion head with the help of adhesive tape.
After creating the main contour, you can start painting. Paint is best applied with a sponge. Carefully wetting the surface of the wall, inside the selected contour, we get a uniform texture without brush strokes.
After painting the stem and head of the dandelion, the molar tape can be removed.
The next step is to draw the dandelion seeds-umbrellas.
For drawing again we use a sponge. Only now you need to moisten only one edge of the sponge with paint. Light imprints of the corner of the sponge are applied along the diameter of the future flower. At first, you can only make outlines of air umbrellas, and then “fluff” them. The degree of “fluffiness” of the dandelion cap is up to you to choose based on your own taste.
To get more transparency and airiness of the dandelion, strokes were applied in this way:
At the edge - frequent and dense strokes.
To the core - the density of smears decreases.
After such manipulations with the sponge on the wall, you can already recognize the dandelion, but that's not all.
Now, with the help of a thin brush, you need to draw some details - the leaves at the stem, the seeds on the dandelion head.
Flying umbrella seeds were also added to the wall.
