Loft in the interior: description of style, choice of color, finishes, furniture and decor. Loft-style house: concentration of freedom and creative ideas of self-expression Raw textures and exposed structures

The avant-garde dynamic revolutionary loft style in the interior combines poverty and wealth, underground and bohemianism, modesty and outrageousness. Outwardly, in this direction there is a feeling of an industrial space and a creative workshop. They equip large rooms in this style without unnecessary partitions. The initial base is former factories, attics, warehouses, which were converted into housing by poor people, as well as artists and musicians, where they could create workshops for themselves.

Bright decorative elements and living plants can revive concrete walls.

Loft style in the interior - the main features and features

The loft was born in the forties of the last century in industrial American cities, when factories and plants began to be moved to the outskirts. The empty huge premises were cheaply sold and rented out.

As a rule, initially poor people settled here, as well as representatives of the creative environment. During the design, the rough texture of the walls was left, the pipes were not masked, the wooden beams were not removed, and the large windows were not closed. This brought freedom, dynamics, independence into the interior.

Spacious room, concrete walls and ceiling, large windows - a classic option for decorating a loft-style living room

Gradually, American fashion trends gained popularity in Europe. In urban conditions, apartments began to be refurbished, removing partitions.

  • Trying to copy the industrial style, rich people began to build large residential buildings with huge windows without internal partitions.
  • They left open wiring, bare brick or stone walls, and installed a minimum of furniture. Leave closed only bathrooms and toilets.
  • For the purpose of zoning, mobile partitions, screens are used, which can be easily carried and folded.

Basic directions of the loft

Three main areas stand out in the loft style, each of which has its own specific characteristics and brings its own unique flavor.

  • Bohemian style. While maintaining the dominant features of the factory entourage, the bohemian style is an apartment where people with a developed creative imagination live.

Along with the rough decoration of the walls, the main distinguishing feature is the placement of paintings, musical instruments, sculptures and other art objects, depending on the direction of the residents. Furniture most often has retro features with scuffs, chips, but retains elegance and status.

Comfortable and upholstered furniture is a must for a large living room

  • Glamor style. The predominant feature that distinguishes this style direction when decorating dwellings for a loft is the color palette. In contrast to the restrained gray and white tones, dynamic, juicy colors attract attention in rooms with a glamorous design.

Against the background of unfinished surfaces with a rough texture, they form an interesting contrast. Luxury items are sure to be present, for example, very expressive chic chandeliers, modern upholstered furniture with openwork decor designs, elegant tables, exclusive carpets, cabinets and chairs with elements of exquisite baroque or rococo.

  • industrial style. In the most recognizable industrial atmosphere of the premises, equipped as a loft, pipelines, trusses, heavy workshop doors, wires, chains are present in the open.

Installed metal shelving. From the same material, a kitchen apron and countertops are made. There are no rich colors here. The furniture is distinguished by strict geometric shapes; excessive ornateness and delicacy are not allowed.

Characteristic colors for the loft style

When creating an industrial space, neutral shades dominate with the predominance of natural materials.

  • Achromatic tones are considered traditional - white, black, gray, as well as brown color. They emphasize the originality of stone, metal, concrete, wood.
  • There are different colors of brick - from dark red to delicate pink. And also there are terracotta or darkened from time to time options.
  • Bright eye-catching accents appear in separate strokes. Most often these are blue, red, yellow, orange shades. They can be present on the upholstery of upholstered furniture, carpets, in the decoration of a chandelier or on wall planes when doing graffiti.

Only a real "Loft" is able to combine the incongruous and create an impeccable interior from this.

Materials used in the loft interior

For living spaces planned for loft style, concrete slabs are the dominant material, which blends well with ceiling moldings. A wooden board is used, with which the floor is covered or the walls are sewn up.

  1. Durable glass acts as protective side planes of flights of stairs, as well as partitions and shelves.
  2. Gray concrete can be given a lighter texture by staining with whitewash, but more often only one wall plane is left unfinished.
  3. Interesting variations are created using brickwork, as well as wooden wall decoration.

Metal in a fashionable loft style is also worthy of use, but it does not dominate. Usually ceiling beams, pipes, frames are made from this material.

Loft style options in the house and apartment (photo)

In modern apartments, if desired, you can add elements of the loft style even to separate rooms, which allows you to make the surrounding atmosphere non-standard and modern.

Living room

  • Since it involves the creation of a cozy atmosphere, only one wall is left in its raw form. It can be concrete or brick. The remaining planes are plastered or carefully leveled and painted. usually they are not used in such an interior, with the exception of knitted, textile, and wallpaper imitating brickwork.

Leave the ceiling beams at a sufficient height. They can have a wood texture or be painted white. Windows are left without curtains, but more and more often they are covered with carpets with blinds.

Carpets on the floors are not spread, leaving them open. The center of the interior becomes a sofa area with a TV set opposite on a concrete wall.

If the area allows, then arrange a fireplace corner. Old black-and-white photographs, posters, retro clocks are placed on the walls, in harmony with the roughness of the main finish.

A simple idea - how to create a unique loft-style interior design from simple or old things

Kitchen

  • If the kitchen is isolated from the living room, then when decorating for a loft style, it is appropriate to use. For this purpose, artificial materials that imitate any brick surface look worthy.

They convey the industrial features of metal or wood beams on the ceilings, which are usually plastered. The kitchen apron is made of metal sheets or plain tiles, which looks static and discreet. Furniture is set in a simple geometric configuration without excessive decoration. It can combine wood with glass and plastic. Household appliances are allowed the most modern.

Advice! In the created interior, a TV equipped with a plasma panel will look good. Install hobs, coffee machines. If the kitchen is combined with the living room, then with the help of the details described above, it is easily separated from the common space.

Bedroom

  • To decorate in this style, you should slightly soften the characteristic features of the loft. To do this, it is allowed to lay rugs on the floor, decorate windows with curtains. At the same time, the main focus is on the bed, which should be concise. The frame of strict lines is made of metal or wood. Bedside tables are installed nearby, the bed is covered with a plain bedspread.

It will be possible to favorably emphasize the loft style in the interior by making one of the walls (usually at the head of the bed) imitate brick or rough concrete. A crystal chandelier and rare floor lamps go well with a similar entourage. A plasma TV will also fit in perfectly here. You can hang posters, black and white commemorative photographs.

On a note! In the event that a single space is made out, then wardrobes are installed to separate the bedroom, which will isolate the bed from prying eyes.

Decoration and decor is an integral part in any design style.

Hallway

In the hallway, open brick or concrete draft walls are often left. If they are too dark, then cover with light paint. The floor can be tiled or laminated.

If possible, lay boards. Furniture is installed from retro options. An old hanger will fit perfectly into the space. Having decided to place a sliding wardrobe, they select a copy without glass. A floor lamp or an elegant table is appropriate.

Brickwork in the hallway - simple and beautiful

Bathroom

To give a loft style to the interior of the bathroom, plumbing is purchased, focusing on two key points. It can be selected from an old collection with signs of wear or be the most modern.

On a note! Brickwork or concrete stylization is most often performed on one wall plane opposite to the washing place. Shelves, towel racks are usually mounted here.

Floor, walls and ceiling

The main impression of the interior is made by wall, ceiling, floor planes. They should bear the key features of the loft style.

  • Loft style walls- leave in a draft version without wallpaper or plastic panels. More common is a concrete surface, sometimes with whitewash, brickwork or a wooden board. They can be made from plywood or metal.

The role of interior partitions in open space is performed by glass blocks. The bar counter will help separate the kitchen. There are plastic mobile partitions. Increasingly, wall surfaces are trimmed with decorative materials with a stylization of natural textures.

  • Floors in loft interior- in the original version, concrete ones are characteristic. But in an improved form, they can be made of wood or made of artificial slabs that imitate marble, granite.

There are floors made of parquet, ceramic tiles, laminated boards. Also in modern apartments self-leveling floors equipped with a heating system are used.

  • Ceilings in loft-style rooms- must have a good height. Beams, wires are mounted on them, communication pipes, wooden beams, trusses imitating an attic, chains can pass.

If an ordinary city apartment with low walls is made out, then the ceilings are simply plastered or painted white.

Furniture

They are guided in the selection of furniture for rooms that carry the characteristic features of the loft style, depending on the dominant direction.

Expert advice

The wardrobe is often replaced with an open hanger. Shelves look good, even packing boxes fit in, the main decoration of which is the logos of manufacturers.

Accessories and decor

For decorating rooms created in an unusual loft style, the most diverse and bold ideas are acceptable. Let's talk in more detail about each of them.

  • To increase comfort in the recreation area, swings suspended on chains or large hammocks look great.
  • A modern plasma TV contrasts organically with the rough wall finishes, and a chaise lounge can be placed in front of a huge open window, placing a modern elegant floor lamp next to it.
  • The kitchen space will be perfectly decorated with stumps that replace chairs or metal barrels.
  • Often in the interior of a loft there are chains that can be hung from the ceiling or decorate leading to the second floor. Some install road signs in front of the entrance to certain premises.

How to stylishly decorate the interior using additional decor

Lighting

Huge windows that remain open provide plenty of natural light. However, additional lamps are required for the evening time.

The loft style in the interior incorporates a wide variety of configurations and design solutions - one or more chandeliers, street lamps, wall sconces, lamps, floor lamps. As a rule, several lamps are arranged in one place, highlighting a certain area.

The wires are not hidden behind the boxes. Light bulbs are often hung without shades in several rows, creating the feeling of garlands. A convenient option is a tire mounted on the ceiling with mobile lighting fixtures.

Important! When selecting lamps for one room, they are guided by a single design solution. They must be made of the same material or have a certain color sound.

Knowing the dominant features of the loft style, you can independently develop a design project for your own home.

At the same time, it is important to take into account that it is possible to demolish interior partitions in city apartments only after agreement with the relevant organizations. We hope that in our article you have found suitable options for inspiration.

When building and decorating a country cottage, it is very important to correctly determine the architectural style. Many homeowners choose a calm and discreet classic. Some are closer to ethnic directions. But lately, more and more preference has been given to functional modern styles, and perhaps the most daring and expressive of them is the loft. It combines modern design and industrial interiors. In this article, we will talk about how to design a loft-style house, how to clad it on the outside and how to decorate it inside.

What is loft style

Despite the fact that this direction arose in the first half of the last century, it has become popular in domestic suburban construction only in recent years. To understand the essence of the loft, you need to know the history of its appearance. It all started in New York City, when a real estate boom forced entrepreneurs to move their factories out of the city center to the outskirts and vacate industrial buildings. The premises in factory and factory buildings, and especially their upper floors, attracted the New York bohemia. Thanks to their large size, high ceilings and good lighting, these rooms turned into excellent workshops.

Gradually, workshops in industrial buildings settled down and became something between housing and a fashionable art studio. Currently, the first loft apartments have become so legendary and elite that they are no longer available for creative bohemia. Now successful lawyers and financiers live in them. And the style itself has become widespread as a daring alternative to the correct and boring classics.

Style characteristics

Loft (industrial style) is characterized by a combination of opposites - expensive finishes and rough production materials, high artistry and complete disregard for it, urban elements and the latest technologies. There are several main features of this style that you need to consider when using it.

On our site you can find contacts of construction companies that offer services for the design of country houses. You can directly communicate with representatives by visiting the exhibition of houses "Low-Rise Country".

layout

Loft-style houses are designed with a minimum number of partitions. All rooms that can be combined are combined. First of all, this applies to the daily group of premises, including the entrance hall, living room, dining room and kitchen. Often there is also an office or workshop.

Sleeping quarters can also be combined with rooms for other purposes. For example, part of a spacious bedroom can be used as an office, library or dressing room.

Zoning

Spacious rooms are usually divided into functional areas using a contrasting combination of colors and textures of finishes, as well as differences in floor or ceiling levels. However, the interior of a loft-style house is characterized by the absence of any zoning. Separate zones simply exist in a single space without distinction. Here it is important not to "cut" the space, but to preserve it.

High ceilings allow you to divide the room vertically and equip the second level (mezzanine). The upper level is reserved for the placement of cozy bedrooms. You can make a small library or just a place to relax.

If zoning is carried out using partitions, then they usually choose a material that does not “eat up” the space. This is primarily glass (transparent or frosted), as well as metal and mirrors.

Lighting

Loft-style houses are characterized by large panoramic windows without drapes, and an open floor plan provides natural light from two or three sides. In some cases, guest areas are designed, illuminated from all four sides. The height of the premises makes it possible to make living rooms and studios with a second overhead light.

Artificial lighting is selected in such a way as to make the rooms even more voluminous. Ceiling lamps are used mainly, and quite rarely - wall lamps. Lamps are set with a bright but diffused white light. The exception is bedrooms, where muted lighting fixtures can be used.

Lighting fixtures mostly have a modern design and are installed in whole lines. The exception is individual original lamps that perform the function of an accent in the interior.

Finishing

The walls in the interior of the loft are surfaces without a fine finish. In modern homes, facing is used, but it often imitates rough brickwork or a concrete wall covered with plain whitewash or paint.

The floors in the original version of the loft were mostly concrete. But this is not practical and inconvenient. In modern houses, designed in this style, the floors are usually wooden, lined with boards. Sometimes they are laid out of stone or made in bulk.

Wiring, ventilation system, as well as roof rafters can be laid along high ceilings. All this is not hidden inside the walls and ceiling, but is left in the open. Often, decorative ceiling beams and elements of ventilation pipes are installed to give the interior an urban character.

Source sbdesigns.info

For an industrial style, wood trim is quite suitable. It is especially appropriate when using the loft design in a wooden house. But it’s not worth it to completely finish all the walls with panels or boards; brick or concrete surfaces must be present in an industrial interior.

Decor

Loft style does not accept embellishments. It is minimalistic and functional. Its diversity arises from the use of non-standard solutions. So, for example, all kinds of heaters, simplified fireplaces, and even barrels of fire serve as a reference to the original appearance of the habitable factory attics. It is these decorative elements that serve to decorate the design of the premises.

Originality is very important for a loft. Therefore, it is advisable to come up with your own special “zest” for the interior, something that will become an individual hallmark of this particular house. For example, on the wall there may be a graphic author's drawing in charcoal or chalk. A street lamp or an old telephone booth can stand in the corner of the living room. Real road signs will do, as well as garden benches, deck chairs, chain swings.

Color

This style requires the use of strictly sustained and limited colors. Usually choose two or three contrasting colors and beat them. The main colors are gray, black, white, brick.

To accentuate the interior, red or blue shades are used. Silver paints are often used in the loft, which go well with glass and metal surfaces. But often loft-style rooms are decorated in one color with a couple of bright accents.

Furniture

When choosing furniture, one of two fundamentally different approaches is used. The first of them is the selection of a minimum set of interior items with the most modern design. Moreover, the furniture should be restrained in design and multifunctional.

Another approach involves the choice of furniture with a pronounced outdated design, which is associated with past cultural eras. These can be items with a worn surface, peeling paint, missing parts.

Main directions

In the process of its development, this style was divided into several directions. The main ones are:

    glamorous;

    industrial;

    boho loft.

Industrial direction

Requires a minimum of funds and effort to recreate. To get an interior in the style of an industrial loft, it is enough to furnish a room with high ceilings and no decorative finishes with simple airtight furniture without frills and fill the space with some elements that create the atmosphere of an industrial building.

As a decor, wires, chains, wooden trusses, valves and pipes tied into knots are suitable. All this, when used correctly, creates a rather powerful flavor. Instead of a wardrobe, it is recommended to install open hangers and shelving. However, in order to feel comfortable and confident in such an environment, you need to have a certain temperament or a great love for modern architectural art.

Source oselya.ua

Glamor direction

It differs from other areas in the use of pastel shades in the palette. The design of a loft-style house, in its glamorous version, can be made not in the traditional gray and white colors, but, for example, in a combination of white with beige or orange.

In a glamorous loft, accents in the form of shades and lampshades are especially important. There should be a lot of them, and all of them must certainly be unusual and memorable. You can also use original furniture, for example, in the Baroque style, which will contrast with the rough finish of the room. It is important that the furniture is flashy expensive, otherwise you will not get enough spectacular contrast with the factory wall decoration.

Although the glamorous loft allows for the use of soft shades and decorations, it is, in fact, even more eccentric than its basic version. It's all about even more daring combinations of the incongruous. It is quite difficult to adopt such a style without having the qualifications of a designer. There is a risk of getting an unaesthetic interior "vinaigrette". But for professional architects, it reveals ample opportunities in creating unique artistic solutions.

Source fineandhome.by

Boho loft (bohemian style)

Bohemian style differs from a simple loft by the presence of art objects in the interior. Basically, these are paintings, sculptures and photos of unknown, but talented authors of our time. All these elements must be chosen with artistic taste. In addition, posters for exhibitions, experimental or underground theaters, pop art posters, etc. are hung on the walls.

The main rule here is no extra items and no "consumer goods". It is better to let the rooms look empty and ascetic than to furnish furniture and decor without a special artistic idea. Furniture and decor are purchased at antique shops or flea markets. Suitable shabby furniture made of expensive wood and leather, as well as items with forging elements.

Living room

In a loft-style house, the living room is a single room that accommodates the entrance hall, dining room, kitchen and the living room itself. It should have large windows and high ceilings. This entire area can be decorated in the most daring way, as it is intended for daytime use and does not have special design rules, such as a bedroom or a nursery.

Regardless of what techniques are chosen for the design of the living room, one of its walls should be decorated to look like brickwork. A brick wall is the hallmark of a loft. Moreover, recently this style has become so popular and recognizable that now even a small fragment of a brick wall is enough to designate it.

Source sohu.com

Since standard techniques for delimiting zones in a loft are almost never used, zoning is carried out mainly with the help of the correct arrangement of furniture. It's not at all difficult to do this. So, the territory of the kitchen is limited to its working area. The dining area, in the form of a dining table and a set of chairs, is located next to the kitchen. The place of the living room is at the window or exit to the terrace.

For arranging the guest area, a massive sofa with a wide but squat table is suitable. In general, all the furniture in this part of the house should be large enough, otherwise it will look bad against the backdrop of a spacious room with wide glazing. The interior design of a country house in the loft style requires non-standard solutions. And this is especially true of the "heart" of the home - the living room.

Source yandex.ru

One of the characteristic elements of the loft-style living room interior is an open fireplace. It should either resemble primitive devices for heating factory premises, or have an unusual original design.

Source planete-deco.fr

Bedroom

In the bedroom, you need to create a calming and cozy interior. Even if it's a loft-style bedroom. If style features are quite pronounced in the design of the living room, then only a slight hint of it can be applied in the bedroom. Walls can be simply plastered. The ideal option is artificially aged and worn plaster. The floor in the bedroom, of course, should not be concrete or self-leveling. It should be covered with a parquet board of any natural shade.

Source ko.aviarydecor.com

There should be a minimum of furniture in the bedroom. However, it should be quite massive. A large bed with a high headboard will look good. Suitable simple-shaped cabinets made of natural wood. Instead of a closet, it is better to install an open storage system.

It is important that wide aisles are maintained between pieces of furniture. If you put them close, the main effect of the loft will be lost. However, this does not apply to bedrooms equipped on the upper level of the living room.

The bedroom is a personal room, an intimate zone of the owners. However, in a loft, it can be integrated into the common space of the house, just like a kitchen or dining room. Of course, this option is not suitable for everyone. But with proper zoning and high-quality heating, a combined bedroom can be very convenient and comfortable.

Kitchen

When decorating the kitchen, you can safely use the most practical materials - stone, ceramics, glass, metal. Chrome plated kitchen equipment is ideal. All utensils should be hidden in cupboards. In plain sight, you can leave a couple of items that emphasize the chosen architectural style.

Canteen

To decorate the dining room, you just need to put a wide dining table and chairs next to the kitchen. The dining area to refer to the interior of factory canteens should be designed for a large number of seats (at least 6).

You can designate the dining area with separate lighting. In this part of the house, round lamps on long chains will be especially appropriate. There must be several.

Children's

The loft style is considered too informal and extreme for decorating children's rooms. In fact, it can be very interesting to beat, soften and stylize it. The result is a very stylish and cozy nursery. A hint of a loft can be a brick-decorated wall and street lamps. But most importantly, this style allows you to use the center of the room to place interior items that are not accepted in other styles - swings, sports equipment, etc.

Bathroom

In the bathroom, you need to apply a ceramic finish, made to look like an old worn tile. A brick wall would also be appropriate here. It is advisable to avoid plastic parts, instead use as many shiny metal parts as possible.

The bathroom, if there is enough space, can be placed in the center of the room, lifting it with a small podium. Moreover, it should be round or oval. The contrast of the rough wall finishes and the smooth rounded shape of the bathroom always looks great.

Design

Loft-style houses are designed with a simple rectangular shape, with wide glazing, often one-story and with a flat roof. But for those cases when you need to build a small loft-style cottage or a large house on a compact plot, there are projects of two-story or attic buildings.

Source ilyaeliseev.ru

If a loft house is designed with an attic, then it should have a gable roof that is simple in shape. At the same time, double light is often planned in the guest area.

In houses with a flat roof, a roof terrace is often provided with metal or glass railings.

For the embodiment of a daring and brutal loft, materials such as burnt brick, concrete and even metal are used. These wall materials, if possible, are left without exterior finishes. If the building needs to be additionally insulated and protected from external influences, the simplest cladding is chosen.

They perfectly convey the mood of the building style, in which different wall materials are combined, for example, brick, concrete and metal.

Conclusion

The loft style differs from most other styles used in the construction and decoration of country houses with bold decisions and contrasting combinations. This is what attracts people who want to have housing with an individual and unique design.

Loft-style interior design is the most popular style today, especially among young and creative people.

The main style difference is the use of concrete, brick, glass and metal in conjunction with designer furniture. In fact, the loft style is a style from the masculine element, since it contains elements of brutality, some kind of rudeness and strength.

The content of the article:

Like any style, the loft also has its own history.The word itself means "attic" and already speaks of its origin.

During the years of crisis in America, an urban revival program appeared, during which old factory buildings, railroad depots, schools and factories began to be turned into housing.

Mostly people of creative professions began to populate them, bringing their original touch to these dull abandoned premises. And so the loft was born.

That's why traditional loft looks rather uncomfortable and adheres to certain rules:

  1. The roughness of the walls (unpolished cement, brick).
  2. Uniformity and muted colors (gloomy gray, brick, dull brown).
  3. Naked communications combined with bright art objects.
  4. And all this in an open space with a minimum number of partitions.

However modern loft can afford a more accurate and aesthetically attractive brickwork, a more processed texture of the wall next to modern materials (glass, steel).

In addition, such a design will no longer look “abandoned”, which means it will have a positive effect on mood and health.

Here is a great example small and cozy cafe in this style.

Surprisingly, a loft can be very cozy!

If you want your interior to look more modern, then you need to include as many modern materials as possible (glass, steel) in contrast with the restored texture of materials (restored parquet, slightly tidied up brick wall).

Two keys to a successful interior in the loft style - creating the maximum feeling of spaciousness and mixing old and new (contrast of abandonment and grooming).

Loft-style interior design: key features

To implement a loft design in the interior of your apartment, you must adhere to the characteristic features of the style:

Materials and styling in the loft interior

Consider in detail the use of materials in the interior.

Floor:

If you want the interior to be more comfortable, you can use parquet or parquet board. However, if you still have an old parquet - do not remove it, it would be better to restore it to look like a loft.

Walls:

  • decorative plaster for concrete (cold colors: shades of gray, blue or marsh colors),
  • brickwork (the more natural the brick looks, the better it will be to convey the atmosphere in the loft style).
  • white matte emulsion
  • mosaic plain tiles

On a note:

  • if you want to use the loft style in the interior of a small apartment, then you need to use smaller bricks or even cover it with paint. There are brick options that have a slight metallic sheen.
  • When choosing, avoid a perfectly flat and smooth brick surface.

Ceiling

Ceilings can be dazzling white to give the space a sense of spaciousness and light.

Furniture and textiles in loft-style interior design

Since the loft should combine “abandonment” and a creative note (after all, warehouses were often inhabited by artists), it is furniture and textiles that will become a means of expressing this creativity.

The most important thing is to achieve a contrast between the general "shabby" and the abandonment and elite outrageousness of textiles and furniture.

What then can be textiles? Expressive, bright and even flashy.

If you have an open floor plan and a lot of free space, then you need to create "focal spots" to avoid the impression of boredom and emptiness from the interior. Such stains can create fabrics with a large expressive pattern.

In this youth interior, quite a lot of such “spots” are visible: a carpet, a sofa, armchairs. The picture and the art object on the wall are also bright details, but this is no longer about textiles.

The most important thing to pay attention to is texture and color:

The main thing is to be able to combine the rough and harsh with the flashy and shiny.

Concerning furniture, it is important that its dimensions fit the dimensions of the room. In the same way, as already mentioned about the pattern of the fabric - it must be proportionate to the room. Agree, a small sofa in a huge space will simply be lost.

But if you put a brutal leather sofa, then it will harmoniously fit into the interior, but will not create a contrast. However, the total amount of furniture in this style is minimal.

Decor and accessories in loft interior design

Window, as a rule, should merge with the general interior. For example, they can be painted in the color of the walls, the main thing is that they do not stand out. Window decoration is concise, clear: white roller blinds made of cotton, blinds made of wooden planks or lifting steel.

plinth usually painted either in the color of the flooring or in the color of the walls.

As decor it will be appropriate to use various art objects, art objects and designer furniture. For example, you can install an avant-garde installation or a large lamp on the floor. The highlight of your interior can be a pop art picture or your own photo in this style.

This lamp reflects the idea of a loft - the use of industrial materials in the interior.

Color scheme in loft style

The color scheme in the loft style is not quite unambiguous, as it might seem at first glance. It is important to determine what kind of impression you want from the interior: an urban graphic aesthetic or a more vibrant and expressive design solution. How to divide residential areas?

Usually the question of zoning in this style remains open. The loft apartment is an open space, however, only bedrooms, bathrooms and utility rooms are isolated. For the rest, zoning techniques are used.

So, you can zone the space using:

Furniture is also a subject of zoning. For example, 2 armchairs separate the dining area from the living area. Please note that the different color of the walls in these zones + also helps to create the illusion of zoning.

For whom is the loft style suitable?

  • For young, creative people who are ready to turn their home into an art space.
  • For owners of open-plan apartments
  • For those who do not need privacy

The complexity of interior design in the loft style is to create a completely suitable cozy space for living, which seems uncomfortable at first glance. Remember, if you can create such an impression - the loft is a success!

The interior of a loft-style country house has some distinctive parameters that should be discussed separately. Interior specialists often call this style industrial, so it is characterized by simplicity of lines, a minimum amount of decoration.

The loft style in the interior of a country house suggests the presence of unplastered walls, for example, in a room you can see concrete or brick in its original form. In addition, it is common for a loft to leave parts of the plumbing and electrical wiring without additional decoration.

Attention! Given the specifics of this interior style, it is recommended to first think through all the details of the future interior, and only after that proceed to active actions related to the implementation of the plans.

Do not know where to start creating the interior of a country house in the loft style? We offer you to carefully watch the video, get acquainted with the recommendations of professional stylists specializing in this interior direction.

Distinctive characteristics of the loft

The loft style in the interior of a country house is reminiscent of the houses that existed during the industrial revolution in the United States. The easiest option for creating such an interior inside your home is to use a minimal decorative finish in a country cottage. We note the main features of this style direction:

Features of the design of a country house in the loft style

Photos of finished interiors indicate that it is important to think through the main details of the image created in the house in advance. Professionals recommend immediately taking care of organizing open space, trying to use the minimum number of walls and partitions in the house, and maximizing the size of doorways.

In free space, it is easy to distinguish various functional areas for the kitchen, living room, recreation and work areas.

Particular attention at the stage of planning the future interior should be given to the floor. An interesting solution in the loft is the selection of natural wood flooring.

Advice! Interior designers do not advise using natural concrete for decorating the floor, since this material is cold enough, so the inhabitants of the living space will feel very uncomfortable inside.

A great idea would be to decorate the floor surface with ceramic tiles that imitate natural concrete, as well as install a special “warm floor” system to increase comfort and coziness in the house.

Materials for finishing work

In order to make it really cozy and comfortable inside a country house, decorated as a loft, professionals choose unplastered brick, glass, metal, concrete walls, natural wood for decoration.

Attention! Remember to follow safety measures when choosing materials for an industrial interior.

An excellent decoration in the loft is the installation of a metal staircase, which has strict straight lines. This interior direction does not involve the use of forged elements, only straight forms are allowed. As an exception, such models of stairs that have a spiral or twisted image are considered for the loft.

Furniture and decor for the loft

The interior of the industrial style involves the installation of designer furniture, as well as industrial decor options, thanks to which a special atmosphere is created in the room. For example, steel plates with inscriptions and slogans, unusual steel objects will be appropriate here.

In this interior, it is appropriate to use modern furniture with a smooth surface. Among the materials that are more used in industrial style, the leading position belongs to natural wood.

Attention! Wooden pieces of furniture should not contain a significant amount of various decorative elements.

The appliances that are installed in interior items purchased at a flea market or brought from an old grandmother's attic also have a stylish look.

Professionals consider wall lamps with unusual metal covers to be an excellent choice for an American loft. They are sure to bring originality to the atmosphere created in the room.

A somewhat unusual solution is the combination of natural and industrial materials, but with the right selection, the result will surely please you.

To complement the external image of the living room, in the industrial interior direction, spacious armchairs and sofas are used, which are upholstered with natural fabrics.

Advice! If you choose the right accessories and equipment, you can create a real masterpiece of design art in your home.

To create an industrial style interior, furniture that has a long history is suitable. A certain wear and tear emphasizes its unusualness, individuality, therefore it is welcomed in the loft.

When selecting various elements of furniture, it must be remembered that it must be related to the size of the decorated room of a country house.

window decoration

Many loft interiors, photos of which are presented in magazines and on the websites of design studios, are offered without additional window decoration. This option is suitable for those country houses that are located away from the roads, so they are reliably protected from prying prying eyes.

If there is no such protection, then interior stylists suggest using Roman blinds or industrial blinds to decorate window openings. They will not only become a reliable protection from prying eyes, but will also let a sufficient amount of sunlight into the room.

For such an interior, you can choose any shades of gray, use a combination of white and black shades. For example, in the kitchen, you can create a harmonious image if you purchase a black countertop and the walls are decorated with white bricks.

For the ceiling, stylists allow you to choose a gray color in order to get a unique atmosphere inside the room, ideally bringing the interior closer to a real American loft.

Conclusion

Currently, there are many interesting interior trends, so each owner of suburban real estate can choose exactly the image for his possessions, which will fully reflect his mood and emphasize social status.

Fans of industrial design, which involves simple lines, the preservation of the original appearance of the ceiling and walls, are trying to create an industrial environment in their country estates. In addition to the selection of colors, furniture elements, special attention during such work should be paid to the combination of rough textures with expensive and noble materials.

Recently, there has been a tendency to introduce a loft into city studio apartments. The absence of partitions allows interior stylists to create a harmonious and complete image in small studios, corresponding to a classic loft.

The loft style, which causes rather contradictory impressions, today attracts happy owners of spacious apartments without partitions. As a rule, such interiors are equipped in rooms with an area of at least 100 square meters. At the same time, bachelors most often choose a loft. Therefore, there is an opinion that this is the style of freedom-loving people.

There is something ancient, industrial and creative in this direction at the same time. Which, however, is not surprising, because the word loft (which literally means “attic” in English) was used to refer to living quarters that were equipped in former factories. This determined the main features, character and mood of the interior.

Loft style - industrial style loft

This is what a classic loft looks like. This concept appeared in the 1940s, when industrial facilities began to move from the centers of American cities to the outskirts, and vacant premises began to be sold for housing. Of course, to ensure normal living conditions, it was necessary to redo a lot, but many features of the original purpose of the premises were preserved, and it is they who are trying to reproduce today. Therefore, the loft style is characterized by:

  • the preservation of old brickwork or its imitation, if the walls are concrete, they are also put on display, impregnated with special compounds;
  • openness of all communications - it is not customary to hide pipes, wires, metal parts of the frame here, on the contrary - they should become part of the composition;
  • the space is single and only zoned - without partitions and divisions into rooms;
  • industrial features are manifested in deliberate rough finishing in places;
  • progressive technologies also emphasize the industrial character of the interior;
  • such apartments evoke obvious associations with the factory floor;
  • the windows are huge and open, the loft style does not recognize any curtains, only brutal iron bars or the same.

Modern trends make the loft quite technological, which fully corresponds to the industrial nature of the design. For a long time, such an interior retained American features, since the style spread precisely from America. It manifests itself in everything - from the color scheme to the choice of finishes for the main surfaces.

Basic principles for the formation of a loft-style room

open floor plan

Premises of any area, almost everything remains the same - without capital partitions and walls. Basically, effective zoning techniques are used for the harmonious organization of space. Of course, there are areas that need to be fenced off - bathrooms, bathrooms. But for, in which only one person lives, you can also choose extraordinary solutions with open bathing bowls located completely non-standard. Instead of a separate bathroom room, you can use a shower stall, the walls of which are a fairly effective solution for arranging a hygienic area instead of main walls.

In such a room, usually the main part of the cabinets is built into niches or disguised. This allows you to make the space functional and free at the same time. Those items that simply cannot be otherwise remain standard - sofas, cabinets, racks, etc.

The division of the premises into separate sections can use light mobile partitions that move apart, retract, and transform. These can be combined solutions:

  • Cabinets that when assembled look like a solid cube, and when disassembled look like a complex of shelves, drawers, even a bed can be hidden in such a design.
  • The TV can be tucked away in a seemingly simple cabinet that opens up into a spacious suite with plenty of storage space.
  • Racks can be used as partitions between functional areas. If you make them mobile, you get sliding partitions with organized shelves.

window decoration

It is preferable to choose panoramic windows, but not the entire wall. These can be horizontally elongated openings, high structures under the ceiling, located above the height of a person.

Curtains and window decor are not used here. Blinds will look practical and simple if there is a need to cover the windows from the rays of the sun. It is usually difficult to look into industrial workshops, so there is usually no need for curtains in the northern premises.

The color of the blinds, if any, should be as neutral as possible, since the decor on the windows in the loft style is inappropriate.

Preservation of industrial details

This is perhaps the most interesting nuance in loft-style interior design. Such a room should contain characteristic details that seem to have been forgotten to be taken out or adapted for housing. As a rule, they become accents that give the design a special character.

These details include:

  • Pipes everywhere and everywhere: plumbing, air duct, exhaust, heating.
  • Preservation of old brickwork.
  • The presence of a heating stove - a potbelly stove, a metal barrel, etc.
  • Glass piers in partitions.

Finishing

Decorating a loft-style room, as a rule, does not cause any particular difficulties.

  1. floors traditionally left concrete. But this is not very comfortable, especially for the sleeping area. Therefore, it is acceptable to make them self-leveling, cover them with boards or ceramic tiles, artificial or natural stone. Parquet and laminate are not used in the loft style. The self-leveling floor is optimal, as it can imitate both concrete and stone. It is advisable to use the “warm floor” system, since in spacious apartments this surface will not heat up well enough. Such solutions reduce the cost of basic heating, as the heat from the heated floor surface rises and makes the atmosphere more comfortable even without heating.
  2. Walls usually left untouched. This is traditional brickwork or concrete. In the latter case, the surface can be whitewashed, painted or coated with a transparent varnish. Wallpaper or plastic is never used here. You can apply partial sheathing with plywood, metal or wood paneling. Instead of decorative wood materials, stylized details from boxes for a variety of products with appropriate markings will be appropriate. So you can veneer the walls in the hallway, part of the wall in any other area.
  3. ceilings usually whitewashed or painted. Stretch fabrics and stucco molding are never used here. Simple beams will be the best decoration. However, pipelines under the ceiling, electrical communications, which are advisable to pack in special casings, will also be appropriate. Lighting devices require more detailed consideration.

room color palette

In principle, the tint range of an industrial premises can be any, but colors typical for the main materials usually prevail. That is, it is metal, wood, brick, concrete. Accordingly, the interior is distinguished in a certain sense by grayness and neutrality, which means that there is always a place for bright and non-standard accents in it.

Obviously, the following remain traditional for the loft style:

  • gray and black;
  • white;
  • brown.

These are the shades of wood, metal, natural stone. The color of the brick dilutes the monochrome range - terracotta, dark red, blackened orange or grayish. After all, whatever the production in a particular workshop, the masonry darkens over time. Designers strive to keep such a touch of time in any interior.

In a spacious room, accents are also needed - quite bright and catchy. These can be red, blue, orange, yellow details. This is the upholstery of the sofas in the living room, and the fire in the fireplace or stove, carpet, graffiti on the walls, a huge chandelier.

high ceilings

High ceilings are a characteristic phenomenon for the loft style, even if such a room is being built from scratch or they are trying to implement such a design in an existing apartment. There can be no low ceilings here. Traditionally, their height is enough to ensure that a sleeping place and rooms for rest, work and privacy are located on the second level of the room. If the main bathroom is located on the first level, then a shower cubicle can be placed near the bed.

It should be noted that the second floor is also part of a single loft space. Usually it is made in the form of a platform, the contents of which are not visible from the lower level. Therefore, here you can organize a place for relaxation and solitude. Instead of walls, the second floor is surrounded by security fences.

Loft apartment lighting

As in any other interior, in the loft style, great attention is paid to light. A feature of the arrangement of such a room is its unity, which makes the organization of lighting a rather difficult task, because it turns out that the light from some areas will be visible in other parts of the apartment, which complicates the creation of a relaxing atmosphere. That is why the loft is read as the best solution for bachelors, because in a couple, while one is preparing something in the kitchen, the other may already be sleeping, and the light in the work area will interfere with rest.

As a rule, the entire lighting system is made integral. That is, dim lamps of the same format are placed throughout the space to ensure the safety of movement around the apartment. Each separate zone is equipped with a central light source and, if desired, several additional ones.

Important parameters in the organization of the lighting system are the following nuances:

  • Stylistically, all fixtures should look the same. Most often, simple glass shades or metal products are chosen. The simplest forms, geometric lines are applicable. The colors of the lamps are neutral.
  • There can be no classic floor lamps here. Experts call systems with long adjustable legs harmonious models. Such lamps can both stand on the floor, and be mounted in walls, furniture, descend from the ceiling.
  • Since the height of the ceilings in industrial workshops is usually large, the lamps are chosen on long suspensions. Suspension beams can be used for their installation. Accordingly, technological models installed on the floor, furniture, etc. are common.
  • An organic and functional solution would be to use light poles or mount several lamps on a vertical pipe. This is convenient if the second level is organized in the room, then both the lamps of the first floor and the second can be placed on such a pylon.

Varieties of loft style

Today, the loft style can be different, but in general it is usually divided into three areas:

  • industrial design - a typical industrial loft;
  • glamorous - the choice of modern people from high society;
  • bohemian - apartments for creative people.

industrial design

This space is fully consistent with all the trends listed above. This is a truly factory interior, in which a person suddenly settled. It is here that there are always pipelines through the whole room, valves and trusses, real workshop gates, heavy doors, chains, wires.

Here, metal shelving, a tabletop, a metal apron in the working room are applicable. There is no place in such a design for superfluous and useless decor, delicate details and overly bright cheerful colors. But it is in industrial design that you can turn on technical innovations to the maximum, for example, the “smart home” system.

Glamor loft

The first thing that catches your eye in such apartments is a riot of colors. Instead of the usual neutral palette and discreet accentuation with one or two shades, unexpected bright colors can be seen in a glamorous room. But the walls are still unfinished, which creates a special atmosphere.

This is a rather contrasting interior, because against the backdrop of rough walls and simple floor and ceiling solutions, rather luxurious items are used. Here you can see expensive chandeliers, chic upholstered furniture, exclusive carpets, furniture with openwork decor and ornate shapes. For example, in the dining area, it can be baroque. In the bedroom, you can use gentle and refined forms of rococo, decor in the shabby chic style, fencing off this space from the main industrial volume.

bohemian loft

This direction appeared due to the fact that artists, musicians, artists settled in sold-out workshop premises, bringing creative notes to industrial design. Since this category of people cannot be called a wealthy class, one can imagine what their housing looked like in the first half of the 20th century. This is old furniture with scuffs, but keeping the grace of yesteryear.

The decor in such a room is usually assembled from a variety of trends and styles. Of course, the artist's apartment will be dominated by paintings, but it is possible that there will also be items donated by representatives of other areas of art. Therefore, such a loft can surprise you with the number of figurines, paintings, musical instruments, exclusive dishes, etc.

loft style materials

Summarizing the main features and possibilities of finishing the room, we can highlight the main materials that are used in its arrangement:

  • Concrete: the base metal for building walls, flooring, building strong and durable structures. Such surfaces are not additionally treated, preserving the natural color of the concrete mix.
  • Brick: used mainly for the construction of partitions, but not indoors, but between workshops. Therefore, such masonry remains in several places. But it is this masonry that is most often the hallmark of the style.
  • Wood: in the form of a beam, it is present in the decoration of the ceiling, the floor is covered with boards. Wood is applicable in the form of pallets, pallets for the construction of shelving, conditional decoration - giving zest to the industrial interior. Often, in a typical loft-style design, details of packing boxes with logos of manufacturing companies are used.
  • Glass: a necessary material not only for glazing windows, but also for the construction of other structures. It is often present in the details of furniture, in the working area of the kitchen, in the form of shelves, in the construction of light partitions and ceilings. The presence of a second level in a spacious room is an opportunity to create a single space with the help of partially transparent ceilings between floors.
  • Metal: also ubiquitous. These are decorative pipes, communications, and casings for electrical wiring. Metal surfaces are widely used in the kitchen, in the decoration of hallways. Let's use metal and tubes for furniture design.

Furniture and plumbing

Furniture in a loft-style interior can be quite different. Here, simple, fairly ordinary objects, and industrial models created on a metal frame, and antique items are applicable. You can use modern technological solutions, which is important in the kitchen. You can also highlight the characteristic features of furniture in certain areas of loft design:

  • The industrial interior will be rich in objects similar in nature to minimalism. This is the correct geometry, maximum functionality, lack of decor. Such furniture is dominated by practical shades, no less practical surfaces. Open solutions would be appropriate here: a wardrobe hanger instead of a closed wardrobe, shelving instead of closed cabinets.
  • A bohemian loft is created on the basis of exquisite and unusual interior items. Most often it is antique furniture, aged, shabby, but quite expensive. Usually used models of natural solid wood. From the same point of view, forged details are also appropriate - both in furniture and in decor, in lamps, etc.
  • A glamorous loft-style design will look newer - without scuffs and a touch of time. Choose for such a design furniture in the style of baroque, classicism, rococo. Luxurious objects are set against a background of unfinished walls, rough concrete, whitewash and brickwork.

The arrangement of the bathroom can also take place in two ways: with the help of modern technological solutions or aged retro products. The modern version of the loft style is standard and minimalistic forms, the most functional and inconspicuous faucets, a functional shower stall.

In glamorous or bohemian spaces, you can choose different shapes of bathing bowls, made not only from the usual faience. In a glamorous bathroom, stone containers are applicable, and in a bohemian version, even copper basins. You can maintain style with the help of appropriate valves, taps, a mirror, one cabinet for storing hygiene products, towels, etc.

Loft-style rooms

Despite the fact that the space in this style is one, it is not recommended to mix the zones with each other, otherwise the room will turn out to be uncomfortable. For convenience and harmony, each functional area of the apartment should be visually separated from the others. Receptions are standard:

  • Arrangement of furniture.
  • Different tint solutions for each specific zone.
  • Different finishes - stone or ceramic tiles on the floor in the kitchen and wooden planks in the living room, for example.
  • The location of the lamps along the contour.
  • Different floor levels (it will be difficult to beat a multi-level ceiling in a high room).
  • Light mobile partitions and transformable pieces of furniture.

Room layout

The center of such a space is usually the living room. In fact, a sofa or a set with chairs is placed in the center of the entire volume. Opposite is a TV. But lately, the TV has been losing its central role in the living room, making its way to the bedroom. Therefore, such a zone can be sofas located in a circle or square, between which there is a coffee table or an electric fireplace, and a platform for open fire will be appropriate here.

Kitchen

Having determined the most suitable place for the living room, they select a plot for the kitchen area. It will be convenient and ergonomic to place a headset with all related equipment in any niche or non-standard corner. The kitchen here occupies a completely different place than in an ordinary apartment. There is absolutely no need to draw attention to her. When the area of \u200b\u200bthe entire space is very large, you can equip a corner for relaxation and privacy next to the dining room. It can be a comfortable workplace with sofas, a niche with low benches and bookshelves, a large work desk with an anatomical chair.

Canteen

The dining room, along with the living room, occupies one of the leading roles in the loft-style interior. The center of such a zone becomes a large table. Usually choose rectangular furniture. The number of seats at such a table should reach 10, but not less than 6. You can pick up longer items, counting on a company of 12-16 people. Then, in the kitchen area, an island or a bar counter for meals with a small company - family or alone - would be appropriate.

Bedroom

The sleeping place is traditionally hidden behind partitions or on the second level. The second option is considered optimal. It is also necessary in the case of arranging an apartment for a couple. If the room is not high enough or not very large, the bed can be built into a closet or placed behind cabinets, which are usually placed against the walls. You can decorate the entire wall with cabinets by making a secret passage to the sleeping area. Similarly, you can hide the bathroom. If desired, equip an additional bathroom or shower directly in the bedroom.

Other zones

The main bathroom can be separated from a single space with glass blocks that are not transparent enough, but make the wall structures visually lighter.

As a rule, there is no hallway in such a space. Hangers, most often open, are located at the front door. Wardrobes or wardrobes for outerwear can also be built in here.

To make the space as free as possible, numerous pantries and mezzanines would be appropriate in such a room, but they should be organized so that the structures are invisible.

Interesting ideas for decorating an apartment or house in a loft style

Loft is a rather eclectic style that can be both strict and restrained, simple and luxurious.

Depending on the desired mood, decor or simple functional items can be used here. Some interesting ideas include:

  • hammock on chains;
  • swing;
  • wall-mounted bronze candlesticks on a rough brick wall;
  • wooden stumps or barrels are used instead of chairs;
  • street benches, lanterns, low fences - flower bed fences can be used in space zoning;
  • graffiti on the walls;
  • huge pop art posters;
  • huge Egyptian vases or amphoras in a glamorous or bohemian design;
  • massive chandeliers on chains;
  • living plants in tubs, bushes climbing the walls, whole cascades of greenery or fruit-bearing bushes.

An interesting solution would be a combination of a typical industrial loft style with utopian steampunk elements. Fans of the film "Wild Wild West" will surely imagine themselves surrounded by non-existent steam engines. Of course, it’s not so easy to design an entire living space in this style, and it’s unlikely to be comfortable, but it’s quite possible to bring a touch of science fiction to a loft-style interior.

Steampunk features indoors loft

The predominance of metal is characteristic of both styles, so it is not surprising that they will be harmonious. For steampunk, metals with a yellow tint are usually chosen - bronze, copper. They are used in the decoration of walls and furniture. Moreover, such surfaces must be supplemented with numerous rivets.

It is typical for steampunk to use the features of the interiors of Victorian England. You can also bring them into a glamorous or bohemian loft. These are antique furniture made of dark wood, telephones, furniture with leather upholstery.

In decor, in furniture elements, various designs, a lot of gears are used. The use of such items makes the interior unrealistic and fantastic.

All this is organically combined with pipes and ventilation grilles, brick and concrete walls, heavy massive doors under harsh locks and bolts, like in bank vaults.

Such an interior will be warmer than a traditional loft, because yellow-red metals, dark wood, terracotta bricks are used in the design.

Finally

Often a loft is chosen due to the characteristics of the room and is rarely planned initially. Nevertheless, this is a great style for creative, extraordinary people. Industrial design with or without a bohemian touch will always be interesting and somewhat exotic. They use it when they want to combine a workshop with residential apartments. Free views and lifestyle can also be expressed with the help of such design.

The loft-style interior in its classic form does not require significant costs, so it will be an ideal solution for a modest budget. There is no need for special wall decoration or even covering them with any material. In such a room, you do not need to sheathe the ceiling with anything. You will have to work only on the floor so that it is warm and comfortable.

Windows will require considerable expenses: they must be large and open. In an ordinary apartment, of course, they cannot be changed, but when building a house, you can plan exactly such openings as you would like. Although most often a loft is chosen in ready-made spacious rooms with a free layout, where there are already large window openings.

Instead of finishing and decor, graffiti on the walls or painting to your taste is always appropriate.

If you are uncomfortable in a large room, it can be divided into separate zones with light and translucent partitions. Instead of walls, furniture is used - cabinets with doors on both sides (or you can do it on four), open shelving, fireplaces, sofas with high backs. Everything that your imagination and, of course, your wallet is capable of, everything can be realized in such a room, simply by following the basic principles with the layout and the use of glass and metal.
