Actor Oleg species disease. Oleg Vidov died: the unpleasant truth about the deceased actor. Oleg Vidov in the film "The Headless Horseman"

Young people hardly know who he is and where he was filmed, but as a film dinosaur I remember a lot. And I remember the first adaptation of the play "An Ordinary Miracle" by Evgeny Schwartz. The film was a two-part series and Oleg Vidov played the main role of "The Bear". I was not so many years old then, I still didn’t remember directors, screenwriters, cameramen, but I remembered Oleg. Later, Zakharov released his version of "The Ordinary Miracle" in the version of the film musical, and Abdulov played "The Bear" there. Of course, they remember the second film adaptation more, the parvaya somehow did not linger. It's a pity.

The cause of death was a long and prolonged illness - cancer.

Scandal with Soyuzmultfilm

In 1992, Films by Jove received a license to distribute 1,260 cartoons outside the former USSR produced by the state studio Soyuzmultfilm (from 1936 to 1989) and the rental company Soyuzmultfilm (from 1989 to 1991).

All films, with the exception of 80 hours of screen time, were returned to the Soyuzmultfilm rental company in 1994 with the full right to rent or sell these films (the studio never exercised this right). The deal caused a scandal, since the rights to re-edit, re-sound and distribute the golden fund of Soviet animation were sold to Vidov's company for a pittance, while the rental license was transferred to Films by Jove with payment for each hour of screen time, in full accordance with the prices of the world market for old animation that needs to be restored and re-voiced, as long as all copyrights are legal. As confirmed in the United States by a federal judge, Films by Jove paid the full license for each hour of cartoons it took.

In September 2007, Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov bought the rights to the films and transferred them to the Bibigon children's channel.

There is another interpretation of what happened. Films by Jove, having bought the rights to distribution worldwide from Soyuzmultfilm, restored films, dubbed cartoons by famous Hollywood actors, among whom were Shirley MacLaine, and Jessica Lange, and Timothy Dalton, and John Huston ... Vidov figured out how capture the attention of American audiences. He called for help the dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, popular in the USA, and released cartoons under the slogan “Mikhail Baryshnikov. Story of my childhood. And he did not lose: the good old Russian cartoons were watched in many countries of the world. Oleg does not like to talk about the conflict with Soyuzmultfilm, with which he has been fighting for the rights to the paintings for the past twenty years, especially since Vidov has already sold the entire collection to billionaire Alisher Usmanov

Oleg was born into the simplest family, in the small village of Vidnoye, which later became a satellite city of Moscow. The boy's mother worked as a teacher, and later, when her son became an adult, she took the post of director of the school. Dad was a carpenter. By the way, the future actor will borrow the sonorous name of Species from his mother. As a child, Oleg was, like his father, Garnevich.

The family often moved, which did not give Oleg the opportunity to get involved in something especially for a long time. The first 14 years of his life, the future actor with his parents visited several cities of the USSR, as well as in Mongolia and Germany.

A child of the war, and Oleg Borisovich was born in 1943, he grew up in the most difficult times for the country. In his interviews, he never said that he dreamed of becoming an actor. Yes, I didn't think about it. I would like to finish school as soon as possible and start earning a penny on my own.

At the age of 14, Vidov received a certificate from the school of working youth and began to master the craft of an electrician. At 17, fate itself brought the young man to work in Ostankino. Understanding the wires, he first saw a new, unlike his own, life.

A handsome boy was noticed by Alexander Mitta, who was then filming a film drama about the school "My friend, Kolka." The young electrician was invited to play in the episode and was not even listed in the credits, but when he saw himself on the screen, Vidov could no longer think about anything but an acting career.

VGIK

My friend, Kolka!.. (1961)

Surprising everyone at home, he began to prepare for admission to the university. Not just anywhere, but to one of the most famous and inaccessible - VGIK. A little experience in the cinema helped him navigate the entrance exams. From the first time, Oleg Borisovich entered the film institute, sacred to him.

A noticeable and talented boy began to take on episodic roles almost from the first year of study. In his filmography appeared "If you're wrong" and "In the line of duty", but the episode in the instantly cult film "I'm walking around Moscow" turned out to be fateful.

To recall the face of a boy on a bicycle, flashed in the background of the famous movie, you have to strain your memory a lot. However, it was on the set of this film that Vladimir Basov, who was taking his first steps in directing, drew attention to Vidov. He invited a tall, blue-eyed blond with a manly chin to play the lead role in the film adaptation of Pushkin's Snowstorm.

His next victory was the first film adaptation of The Ordinary Miracle, in which Vidov played the Bear. Today, few people remember her, the production of director Mark Zakharov has long overshadowed the first version. But the role of Vidov was a success, and his career confidently went uphill. True, the actor was more often remembered when his texture was needed: a blue-eyed handsome man. Vidov's face was obviously "not Soviet", no wonder that he was most loved by foreigners.

Decision

Blizzard (1964)

In one of his last interviews, Vidov admits: “It was as if I was being pushed out of the USSR.” He began acting early in Yugoslav films, then there was a joint “Headless Horseman” with Cuba, work with neighboring countries.

Every time he encountered foreign film crews, he realized how deprived Soviet artists were of freedom of expression. In addition, the fees in the USSR were very different from foreign ones. A different attitude towards movie stars, a different atmosphere…

The personal life of Oleg Borisovich also went upside down. While still a student, he married the charming Natalia Fedotova, who would now be called a socialite. The beauty was the daughter of a KGB officer, a close friend of Galina Brezhneva. Many associate the heyday of Vidov's film career with this marriage, but the statement is controversial: he remained a sex symbol even after the divorce, he found himself in the cinema, even after emigrating.

And he left the USSR very simply. When the time came to return from the next filming in Yugoslavia, he suddenly realized that he did not want to live his old life anymore. At night, the actor secretly crossed the border with Austria and asked for political asylum there. The capitalist country, for which an eminent representative of a great power, who honestly admitted that not everything was going smoothly in the USSR, was a curiosity, provided asylum.

From there, the actor went to Italy, where he met and fell in love - for the third time and now for the rest of his life.

Love

Ordinary Miracle (1964)

The most difficult in the fate of the actor was the second marriage. But even so, in his interviews, he continued to persist: “The girls treated me well. My wives were so wonderful!

He says that he first fell passionately in love at a young age. His first wife was Marina, who later made a medical career - she became a good doctor. In that marriage, his first son, Seryozha, was born. According to the actor, Marina was terribly jealous of her beautiful husband. This was the main reason for the divorce.

In the second marriage, the second son of Oleg Borisovich, Vyacheslav, was born. He also says only good things about his second wife. He mentions that she had noble manners, was brought up in a European way, and this won her over.

But after five years of marriage, the actor and his wife began to quarrel more and more often, to sort things out. During the divorce, she did not allow her ex-husband to see the child, and also, using her connections, tried to prevent Vidov from shooting on location - they simply stopped letting him out of the country.

Vidov did not talk about the discord in the interview. He only complained that the children had already grown up in another country and belonged to a different generation - with whom it is not so easy to find a common language.

But with the American journalist Joan Borstin, he found a common language very quickly. Having fallen in love at first sight, he crossed the ocean with her, made an offer and healed, at first it was difficult, but then quite happily.

States

The Tale of Tsar Saltan (1966)

In the United States, where fate brought the actor after immigration, at first he had to work at a construction site - just not to sit on his wife's neck. But soon everything got better. Once he showed Joan his favorite Soviet cartoons, which she was very inspired by. Literally out of thin air, the idea arose to translate them and make them available first to English-speaking countries, and then to another fifty countries of the world.

This became a new business for Vidov. They signed a contract with Soyuzmultfilm, restored the films in Hollywood, dubbed them with voice acting by world-famous stars ... But as soon as the cartoons began to be shown on the Disney channel, Soviet officials tried to revoke the contract and said that Vidov did not have rights to films.

Oleg Borisovich did not like to remember the unpleasant litigation, although he won the trial then. He only frowned, remembering the problems in Russia.

But not a single cartoon: Vidov nevertheless became a real Hollywood actor. A Russian policeman in "Red Heat" with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Otto in the cult erotic melodrama "Wild Orchid" with Mickey Rourke, General Vlasov in the movie "Three August Days" - an attempt to reconstruct the revolutionary events of 1991 during the August putsch.

By the age of 70, he had almost stopped acting. He said in an interview that he did not want to play the same roles of Russians. He lived in Malibu next door to Cher and Barbara Streisand and did not consider this to be anything special. “This is Hollywood,” he shrugged. And indeed - at home they are all ordinary people and not artists at all.

Tumor

Waterloo (1969)

For the first time, Vidov was diagnosed with the disease after a small accident in which he got into with Mickey Rourke. Together they hurried on a motorcycle to the set and turned around unsuccessfully. Suspecting that Oleg Borisovich had a traumatic brain injury after the fall, the doctors did a tomography and saw a benign tumor in the cerebellum in the picture.

He almost did not talk about the development of the disease - he was not used to complaining. He only thanked fate that he once got to good doctors who diagnosed the disease on time. The tumor was observed and treated in a timely manner. This gave the actor a serious reprieve.

The last movie with his participation - "6 Days of Darkness" - was released in 2014. After that, Vidov disappeared from the media radar for a long time, and on May 16, 2017, the news spread around the world that the actor fighting cancer could not defeat him.

As a close friend of the actor Igor Kokarev told the Moskovsky Komsomolets publication, Vidov died of bone marrow cancer. For the past five years, he has courageously fought a terrible disease.

ON THIS TOPIC

"Thanks to American medicine and supportive care, he could work, even traveled with his wife Joan. They spent their last vacation in Thailand - they went there for three months," Kokarev shared. Alas, shortly after the return of the actor's wife, Igor sent a letter in which she reported that Vidov's condition had deteriorated sharply. “Come, Oleg is dying, he sleeps all the time,” she wrote.

Igor and Oleg have been friends for 50 years. Kokarev arrived at the clinic the same day and spent all the last days of his life with Vidov. On the evening of May 16, he and Joan left the clinic, and after only four hours the legendary artist died.

Being a strong and strong-willed person, Vidov did not like to talk about problems with his own health. So, only a few knew that more than 20 years ago he was diagnosed with a terrible diagnosis - cancer. Thanks to a timely operation on the pituitary gland, the artist was able to hold out until 2012, until a new diagnosis was made - bone marrow cancer.

Igor notes that these 20 years were very difficult for Vidov. He regularly had to give injections to himself, take mountains of medicine, and follow a strict diet. “I think his career in America was partly bogged down precisely because he lost the drive, the strength that he had before the operation,” summed up Kokarev.

Oleg Borisovich will be buried on May 20 at the Hollywood Forever cemetery, where all the most famous Hollywood actors are buried. The farewell ceremony will take place at 13:00 local time.

Soviet and American actor. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1974). One of the most beautiful artists. Gained all-Union fame after the release of the western The Headless Horseman (1973), where he played Maurice Gerald. He starred in 62 films, I will name only the most famous ones: Snowstorm (1964) - Vladimir; "Ordinary Miracle" (1964) - Bear; "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" (1966) - Prince Gvidon; "Gentlemen of Fortune" (1971) - Vladimir Slavin; "Moscow, my love" (1974) - Volodya; "Bat" (1979) - Alfred; "Pious Martha" (1980) - lieutenant; "Demidovs" (1983) - Nefedov; and many others. In 1983, he emigrated to Yugoslavia, having married a citizen of this country, Verica Jovanovich, and received a 72-day visa. There he starred in several feature films and two television series. Since 1989 he has lived in the United States of America.
Of course, in the USA the actor did not become as popular as in his homeland, but he did not live in poverty either, he acted in films and television shows. Films with his participation: "Red Heat" (1988), "Wild Orchid" (1990), "Three August Days" (1992).
In 1988, Oleg Vidov, together with the American journalist Joan Borsten, his future wife, with whom he had been living together for three years at that time, went into business in the United States and created a company for the restoration and distribution of Soviet animated films Films by Jove (FBJ). In 1992, a scandal broke out in which Vidov was accused of stealing cartoons and buying the rights to cartoons for next to nothing. In 2007, Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov bought all the rights to rent a huge collection of the best Soviet cartoons from Oleg Vidov's company and immediately after the deal donated it to the Russian children's TV channel Karusel.
In 1990, Oleg Vidov starred in one of the central roles in the world Hollywood blockbuster "Wild Orchid" directed by Z. King, where M. Rourke was his partner in the film. Filming in this picture almost ended in tragedy for Vidov. One day, while filming a scene of racing on motorcycles, laying a sharp turn, Oleg caught himself that he did not see where he was turning, he simply did not see the road. I woke up already somewhere in the grass, on the side of the highway. The actor miraculously did not crash, but since that time his health has deteriorated sharply. The examination showed that the sudden loss of vision was the result of a long-standing severe rare brain disease, the doctors did not give him any guarantees. In one of the California clinics, Oleg Vidov successfully underwent several complex brain surgeries, after which he had to undergo a long and painful rehabilitation in the hospital. In 1998, Vidov was diagnosed with a tumor on the pituitary gland at the fourth stage, after which he was again operated on in the United States, which extended his life for another nineteen years.
In the 2000s, Vidov came to Russia. He played one of the roles in the film by A. Baranov "The Enchanted Plot" (2006). Oleg Vidov died on May 15, 2017 in Westlake Village (California, USA) from complications after an oncological disease (skin cancer), which was diagnosed in 2010 in Russia, when the actor came home to visit his son and he became ill. The funeral took place on May 20, 2017 at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

P.S. Currently, over the board covering the niche in which the coffin with the body of Oleg Vidov rests, there is a memorial sign with the name of Oleg Vidov and his portrait (see below). How the burial looks like from afar is shown in the old picture (so far only with the help of Photoshop - approx. Dv.).

HOW TO FIND THE BURIAL OF OLEG VIDOV

The address of the cemetery is 6000 Santa Monica boulevard Los Angeles CA. 90038. In the depths of the cemetery there is a large columbarium, in different passages of which there are many niches into which urns with ashes are embedded, and there are large niches into which the coffin is completely walled up. So it is with Oleg Vidov, the coffin with his body is walled up in a niche in the wall. The place is in the most prominent place at the entrance to this columbarium, the place is very beautiful and central. Opposite this place is a lake with geese and swans; there are also peacocks in the cemetery. On the plate is written the designation and numbers where the burial is located. For anyone who wants, I can send a diagram of the cemetery and a plan of the graves of celebrities buried in it.

P.S. Many thanks to everyone who visits this page and remembers the wonderful actor Oleg Vidov. God and fate gave me the happiness of communicating with him. I can tell a lot about him, but it will take more than one page of this site, so I will only say the main thing here. Oleg Borisovich was a wonderful person in communication, very polite, tactful and friendly. I have been a fan of his since the age of 6, and after many years we met. How could I have dreamed about this as a child then. It was beyond the realm of possibility. Communication with my favorite artist was very warm and sincere. He talked about his filming in Sverdlovsk, talked about his life in America, in recent years he and his wife have been treating people from drug and alcohol addiction, they had their own clinic in Malibu, not far from their home. Oleg VERY missed Russia, his audience, I would even say that he missed. But in America, he met an amazing woman - Joan, with whom he lived until his death, she truly was his guardian angel. Six months before their death, they moved into a new home in Los Angeles, selling their clinic. After the New Year, Oleg's health deteriorated sharply, the disease began to conquer and devour him, he was very weak and literally exhausted.
He died at his home at night surrounded by family, Joan read him his favorite book by Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea. When she finished reading to him one of the chapters, where the old man releases the fish into the sea, his breathing stopped, and he quietly left this world. Unfortunately, none of the Russian artists and the Ministry of Culture expressed condolences and did not come to the funeral. Oleg was buried in a very interesting and unusual way, I had never seen such a thing before, after a civil memorial service, the coffin with his body was laid in one of the niches of the mausoleum, that is, they were not actually buried, but buried as in a tomb or crypt.
At the end of my story, I give a very personal poem for me, which I dedicated to Oleg Vidov and gave him on his last birthday.

Denis Vasiliev (Suleimanov)

POETIC DEDICATION TO OLEG VIDOV

Oleg Borisovich, you are a talent. You are the one who warms the soul, thank you for your priceless gift, for the joy of meeting and the soul of outlets. You are a very sensitive, kind, passionate person, I am sure of that for sure. How bright is the light that from the rays of your smile often comes to me. Thank you for the inspiration, for the purity and sincerity of the soul. You are my idol, an example in all doubts and you shine brightly from your star. May life give you happiness, peace, and the favor of that fate that once revealed to me at an hour that there is an actor like you. You immediately feel to become a breed, you are a prominent person, you can’t hide these traits in any way. How else can it be? After all, you come from Vidnoye, and from there your so bright, wondrous look. You were born in a beautiful picturesque place, and you glorified that region forever with your talent, diligence and honor. You are a true patriot and person. Thank you to your mother for you, and God rest her in her chambers, we pray for you, servant Barbara, for the happiness of your son and the peace of your loved ones. And may she keep your kind, like a bright angel in the sky, because you are worthy of only blessings, you are a knight, but with a vulnerable soul. You are "our friend Kolka", you are "Bear", "Guidon" and "Maurice Gerald" too. You proved to children, adults, the West that there is happiness, good is only eternal, as soon as you look behind you. Just plunge into childhood even for a moment, there are countless cartoons of relatives, it is always easy from them, warm in the heart and, strangely enough, you want to fly: over the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and over the routine of everyday worries. You gave happiness to many people, how valiantly you glorify your family. I send you my bow to the earth, I, Joanna, sons and all relatives, I don’t dare to distract you from thoughts and festive earthly troubles anymore, and therefore I complete this song, my anthem, which I dedicate to you, although all this verbiage is only, and a modest parody of white verse, but the main thing is that everything is only from the soul, from my bright thoughts and good thoughts. You just remember that happiness with memory is still present in the world, I love you, appreciate, keep and remember, I thank fate for the happiness of being with you in spirit, it’s easier for me to live when I know that there is such an actor and there is only one person in the world - Oleg , from Vidnoye, from that country that no longer exists now at dawn. Denis Vasiliev (Suleimanov), Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk), June 11, 2016.

This actor was already quite famous and popular in the USSR. He had every chance to climb the cinematic Olympus. But in the eighties, Oleg Vidov decided to drastically change his life and emigrated abroad, forever leaving his homeland and the audience who loved him.

Glory came to Oleg Vidov after participating in such popular films as "Gentlemen of Fortune", "The Headless Horseman", "The Tale of Tsar Saltan".

Childhood

Oleg Vidov's birthplace was the small village of Filimonki near Moscow, where he was born on June 11, 1943. The profession of Varvara Ivanovna Vidova's mother is a teacher. Papa Boris Garnevich worked as an economist after he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Finance and Economics.

Oleg was very young when his father abandoned his family and ceased to be interested in his son's life. Little Olezhka was brought up by his mother and aunt Nyuta. Aunt was the head of an amateur theater and thanks to her Oleg was drawn to art.

In 1946-1947, Oleg's mother was sent to Mongolia, where she taught the children of Soviet workers. The son went with her.

In 1948, they moved to the GDR, where Varvara Ivanovna was sent as a proofreader to one of the publishing houses. Olezhka was only 6, and he was already fluent in German.

In 1950, Oleg and his mother returned to their homeland and the boy went to a secondary school in Barvikha, near Moscow.

In 1951-1954, my mother was again sent on a business trip. This time it was China and Romania. Oleg moves to his aunt in Alma-Ata.
