We decorate the house: a screen with our own hands. Do-it-yourself screen - how to make a decorative one from cardboard, fabric, plywood step by step with a photo Do-it-yourself mirror screen

Screen- a very useful item in the house, since it can be used to fence off different corners in the room, thereby achieving greater comfort. There is a situation when you need to isolate the workplace from the bed, or close your sleeping child from the light. It was for this that they came up with a screen, and today we will try to make it with our own hands, because in the store you can pay a lot of money for it.

How to make a screen with your own hands?

Before you start work, you need to prepare very well and take all the necessary materials and tools, and you will need a lot of them. Here is a list of what we will be using:

Wooden beam, 4x4cm.

Fabric, preferably linen

Threads are very strong

Beige acrylic paint

paint brush

Sanding machine (can be replaced with sandpaper)

Putty for wood

Hinges (2 pieces per 1 section)

A hammer

screwdriver

Roulette

Screws and nails

Ruler

Pencil

Scissors

Here is such a big list. In our case, we will make 3 sections, so to speak, this is the most common version of the screens. Now let's see the diagram of one section:

Based on these data, we will make a screen. Let's get started!

1. First, we take a bar and make the markup we need. We need six pieces of 180 centimeters and six pieces of 50 centimeters.

2. We saw the timber according to the markings corresponding to the size of the screen.

3. In order not to injure your hands while moving the screen, the tree must be processed with a grinder, but if this is not available, we take sandpaper and do everything manually.

4. Now that all the bars are ready, we will fold the structure. We put two long bars at a distance of 50 centimeters and put jumpers (bars 50 centimeters each). The last two jumpers should be fixed 15 centimeters from the edge, and the third jumper in the middle. We fix them with long screws and a screwdriver, and it is worth fastening from the end. Let's do the same for the other two sections.

5. Let's prepare the putty and go over all the bad places on the tree with it, these can be cracks, bumps or something like that. After the putty dries, these places need to be sanded with very fine sandpaper. Only then will these places become smooth and pleasant to the touch.

6. After the frame is completely ready - it needs to be painted. To do this, we use acrylic paint of any color we like.

7 . We leave the tree to dry, and we ourselves will prepare the fabric. We will need to take measurements, they will be as follows - six pieces of fabric measuring 152x50 centimeters, and 12 pieces of fabric measuring 30x25 centimeters.

8. Also, do not forget to leave 2 centimeters for allowances on each side. After the calculations are made, we can cut out our fabric.

9. Now, perhaps, we should tell you why we need 12 small pieces of fabric. We wanted to make not just a screen, but also a convenient place to store various things, so that these pieces will serve as pockets for the screen. Each section will have 4 pockets in two rows. We bend allowances and sew pockets on a typewriter.

10. The tree should have dried by now, so we can continue to work. We need to connect all the sections, and we do this with the help of hinges, screws and a screwdriver.

If you need to put visiting relatives, guests to sleep in the same room, learn how to make a screen from improvised materials and quickly make it.

How to make a screen with your own hands - ways

In order not to spend money, make it from the material that is available. If guests come to your country house for the weekend, but there is no free room, separate a corner for them using fiberboard or thick packing cardboard.

The manufacture of screens begins with the preparation of material and equipment, in this case it is:

  • sheets of fiberboard or thick cardboard;
  • small door hinges or tape;
  • dye;
  • hacksaw or clerical knife;
  • bar and sandpaper or sanding roller.
Consider two options for manufacturing such a folding wall.

Cardboard screen - 2 options

You can do this in an hour if you need to quickly divide a room into two. If you have a TV box, it will fit perfectly.
  1. The easiest way is to cut off the top and bottom (small sides) and remove the junction of the first and fourth grain.
  2. You will have a large rectangular canvas with three vertical seams. Now you need to bend these seams a little differently: leave the first and third ones the same as they were, and bend the second in the other direction. Then, when unfolding, this temporary wall will be well fixed.
  3. The second method is suitable for those who want to make a beautiful screen. The basis is the same box from the refrigerator. Cut it off the top and bottom so that only the large sidewalls remain. You can keep all four or three. Paired parts - identical, in relation to each other, both pairs are cut in mirror image.
  4. The coils of the pattern are repeated, but these cuts start from one or the other edge. Match the two blanks with solid sides, glue them in these places with adhesive tape. If you have 3 canvases, then there will be 2 seams. If four - then you get 3 seams.

Glue the canvases only on the reverse side, then the screen will fold well. For decoration, you can paint cardboard or attach a self-adhesive film.

MDF screen

  1. Using a pencil, draw a pattern on the surface of each of the three blanks, cut out all the bends with a jigsaw.
  2. Sharp edges must be sanded, then each fiberboard sheet must be painted in the desired color.
  3. To connect the blanks, attach one side of three loops to each - top, bottom and center. Screw the second sides of this fitting to the second wall of the screen. Also attach the third blank.

A grinding device is quickly made if the bar is wrapped with sandpaper and fixed on it.

See how you can turn unnecessary doors into this item. The old ones could remain after the repair, they can be found, because people, making the transformation of the dwelling, get rid of these items. And you will make a wonderful screen out of them. It can be placed not only in the room, but also in the garden, separating the corner of the cottage.

From old doors

If they are not in very good condition, then first remove the peeling paint, cover the resulting recesses with wood putty. When it dries, sand lightly to make the surface even. Then go over it with a primer.

When it dries, cover the canvases with two layers of paint. If it is acrylic, the doors will be ready for subsequent work in half an hour, but it is better to wait an hour.

After that, you need to attach the loops. How to do this is shown in the next photo.

As you can see, two door leaves are placed vertically on a long sidewall, one side of the hinge is screwed to the left door with screws, the other to the right. But the third blank is fastened on the other side so that the assembly result resembles an accordion.

Do not immediately tighten all the screws to the end, you must first align the doors, then securely fix the screws.

The design will turn out to be quite heavy, if you want to make a light folding wall, then check out another master class.

Making a curtain out of fabric

As you can see, such a screen folds well and takes up little space in this position. To make it, take:
  • wooden bars with a section of 30x30 mm;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • the cloth;
  • furniture stapler;
  • braid for ties;
  • saw.
Then follow this plan:
  1. Decide on the dimensions of the finished product. If you want it to be 2 meters high and about three meters wide when unfolded, then you need to knock down the frames for each of the three sections so that they turn out 2x0.7 m. To connect two pieces of bars, match them, attach a self-tapping screw to the side, screw it in.
  2. Legs should form at the bottom. Lay two bars of 2 meters vertically on a flat surface, at the top, between them, place one, 70 cm long. Exactly the same must be placed at the bottom of the structure, but by raising this bar up 20 cm - this height will be legs.
  3. Cut out 3 pieces of fabric measuring 187x77 cm (2 cm on one side and the other so that there are no gaps in the screen, 3 cm - seam allowances - 1.5 cm on each side).
  4. Tuck the canvas on all sides, stitch the edging. Sew on the ribbons - 4 pieces each from the top and bottom, 9 pieces each from the sides. Use them to tie the canvases to the frames. Then it will be possible to remove the fabric and wash these details. But if you want to use a washable fabric, such as bologna, and so that no one can peek through the screen, then you can attach the fabric to the frames with a furniture stapler. If you do not have such a tool, nail decorative nails.
Here's how to make a fabric screen to keep it light. If you want the room to have a piece of furniture that looks like an old one or place your favorite photos on it, then there is another informative lesson for you.

How to make a screen book?

An unusual effect can be achieved if you use thick cardboard. Here's what to use for this kind of work:
  • cardboard;
  • stationery knife;
  • putty;
  • putty knife;
  • cork cloth;
  • burlap;
  • scourging;
  • scotch;
  • photographs or napkins with a pattern;
  • PVA glue;
Decide on the dimensions of the folding partition. You can make 4 canvases. Lay the first sheet of cardboard on the surface. Draw a pattern on its upper part, cut it out. You can apply a pattern to the entire canvas. To decorate the outer and inner sides, take burlap, cork, napkins or photographs. Mark with a simple pencil that where you will be located. Cut out pieces of cork and burlap, glue them in place.

Make sure that the burlap threads do not peek out along the edges, tuck them inside with a needle.

If you will decorate the screen with photographs, glue them. If you like the decoupage technique, then remove the top layer from the napkins, grease the place on the cardboard with PVA, attach these paper blanks here.

When the glue dries, cover with 2-3 layers of varnish.

Other decorative elements that look like flowers also look beautiful. To make them, cut blanks of this shape from the remnants of cardboard.

Lubricate them with glue, starting from the center, attach turns of twine. When the elements are dry, glue them in place.

Assemble the partition walls by gluing them with tape.

You can decorate the screen in another way, perpetuating newspaper clippings, pages of your favorite book on it. To do this, first make photocopies of them. To make the partition look like a relic object, you need to age the leaves.

Dipping the brush into a strong brew of tea, iron the paper with an iron. When there is no moisture left on it, glue them to the cardboard screen using PVA. Leave the product to dry.

Here's how to make a screen with your own hands, spending a minimum of money on it.

Similar devices are also used to create a home puppet theater. They are also suitable for kindergarten. If the child has a birthday, his peers will come to visit, show them a puppet show. It can be a finger theater or the characters will be worn on the hand. They are also easy to make with your own hands, like a wall-partition from improvised materials.

How to make a puppet theater screen

To make this, in the form of a house, you will need:
  • cardboard;
  • hole puncher;
  • laces;
  • paint or colored paper;
  • scissors;
  • stationery knife;
  • ruler;
  • pencil.
Manufacturing master class:
  1. Based on the dimensions provided, make the side walls 50 cm high and 30 cm wide. The center wall measures 50x50 cm and is cut along with the triangular roof. A window is made in the center with the help of a clerical knife.
  2. Decorate the screen with colored paper or by painting the details.
  3. In the side walls, make 2 holes with a hole punch or scissors and four in the center. Match the notches, connect the parts with laces or pieces of rope.
  4. This screen is small, it is placed on the table. A man is sitting behind him, wearing a glove with characters, showing them from the window. If you want multiple kids in the back, then make the walls taller and wider so the kids can reach the window.
If adults will show the performance to children, then the screen can be of the following sizes.

The same calculations are suitable for an ordinary screen. If you are celebrating a children's birthday in nature, then also include a puppet show in the celebration program. You can make such characters in advance so that they look like your family members, guests. Glue a photo of each character present on the face, try to imitate his speech. But all this must be done in such a way that the guest does not take offense, but laughs heartily.

The screen is useful in nature and so that you can place an air mattress behind it and relax. Then see how the accordion screen is made. This one consists of five sheets. If you are celebrating in the country, use unnecessary doors and hinges to them. But these parts must be securely fixed to the ground using pegs and rope, as well as metal pins.

If you want the screen to consist of several elements, then make it a team.

Screen - volumetric partition

To make it, you will need:
  • colored cardboard;
  • stationery knife;
  • scissors;
  • butterfly pattern.
Applying the template to the cardboard, cut out the blanks with scissors. Then make 4 slots in each with a clerical knife - 2 at the bottom and the same at the top. To connect the first five butterflies, place one in the center, put another winged insect on the upper slots on the right and left. In relation to the main one, they will be perpendicular. Also fasten two more butterflies at the bottom. Use the same technology to create the entire screen. It can be taken apart at any time.

If you want to make the screen stationary, then attach cardboard butterflies to each other, gluing the sections.

You can also make a volumetric partition from plastic bottles by cutting out butterflies or other figures from this material.

Here's how to make a screen with your own hands, using improvised or junk material.

Do not deny yourself the pleasure, sitting comfortably, watch the process of creating such a product in the video.

The next partition is also an organizer. In the pockets sewn to it, you can put various items that will be at hand and not get lost.

A screen is an interior detail that is used for various purposes, most often for zoning space. Today, such screens have somewhat expanded their scope of use. You can install an attractive door to the veranda or dining room, arrange a comfortable and peaceful place for reading and home needlework.

Flexible and single screen designs

Modern flexible designs are multifunctional. They can be used not only as a convenient partition, but also as an original door to the veranda, to the living room, as an unusual element of the overall interior decor. With the help of such a flexible screen, which can be bent in any direction, they zone a place for reading or working. On an open veranda, this design will serve as excellent protection from the bright sun or light breeze.

Often for interior design, a design with sashes is used. It consists of several separate elements, which are revealed due to the installed loops. The size and number of sashes can be different - it all depends on the appearance and style. Such screens serve as an excellent element of decor. Single-screen screens are rarely used, they are intended for dressing rooms. The design consists of one large sash-screen, mounted on a frame. It looks much simpler than the options listed above.

  • 2. French connection. The screen can not only divide, but also unite. Installed in a wide space between the windows, it turns out to be the center of attention, preventing the space from “falling apart” into pieces. A screen by Jean Cocteau, a couple of sheep and photographs by Pierre and Gilles bring an element of artistry to the rather conservative interior of this bedroom.
  • 3. Collected works. Decorating screens with fake paintings is a long tradition. Such an object is able not only to model space, but also to fill it with new meaning. For example, with the help of a screen depicting shelves with books, it is easy to turn any room into a reading room. And at the same time to emphasize that the owners of the house are intelligent people and are not indifferent to the printed word.
  • 4. Open book. To study in detail the skillful painting on the wings of the Japanese screen, you need to place it at eye level. To do this, you will either have to sit on the floor or hang a screen on the wall. The plot must be read from right to left. At the same time, it is advisable to dim the light - after all, twilight reigns in Japanese houses. Then the gold on the screen will shimmer, not scream, and the colors will become soft and refined.
  • 5. The third way. This half-empty hotel interior, designed in a neutral color scheme, had every chance of becoming one of those transit zones that do not catch the eye. The situation was saved by a screen, thanks to which the room acquired a new dimension. Of course, we are not so naive as to take the painting for a real landscape. And yet the city streets stretching intoperspective, involuntarily suggestive: where to go next - right, left or straight?
  • 6. Hang to the fullest! To fulfill its original purpose - to intrigue and hide - such a screen will not be able to. But thanks to her, in your bedroom there will be no cluttered corners that need to be hidden from prying eyes. For greater practicality, a mirror can be inserted into one of the doors of such a mini-dressing room.
  • 7. Divide and Conquer! Make the kitchen isolated or combine it with the living room? The truth lies in the middle, and its name is a screen. For example, the owner of this Parisian loft uses the rare Claustra screen, invented in the 60s by the Cloutier brothers, as a partition.
  • 8. Submission from the corner. This corner is a typical "dead zone" - the approach to it is blocked by armchairs and a table by the fireplace. The screen does not just "justify" the existence of this nook. Its mirror doors reflect light and visually expand the space. The only problem is that the screen is located near the head of the bed. Think carefully whether such a neighborhood will suit you: admiring your sleepy physiognomy in the morning is not entertainment for everyone!
  • 9. Holy place. The age-old problem - how to use the space under the stairs - designer Kelly Hoppen solved with the help of a screen. The openwork design of black lacquer rings became the backdrop for the yellow "eared" chair. However, in this interior, the screen solves not only decorative, but also spatial problems - it serves as a "watershed" between the dining and sofa areas.
  • 10. Reliable rears. Sitting with your back to a door or window is extremely uncomfortable. In this interior, the problem is solved by a screen that forms a kind of niche and gives a sense of security. I can’t even believe that we are not in front of a cozy old mansion, but a modern open space.
  • 11. About times, about customs! Since screens first came to Europe, interest in them has faded, then flared up. Another surge happened during Art Deco, when screens made using lacquer, metal and glass came into fashion. The photo shows a typical representative of that era, although this is not an antique, but a skillful stylization. The author of the object is a modern American designer Thomas Fizant.
  • 12. Everything on the side. Sometimes screens take on the role of architectural elements (such as columns, niches, etc.), changing the proportions of the room and setting it in a solemn mood. Installed on either side of the bed, they form an alcove.
  • 13. Under 16 and over. As they say, comments are superfluous. Before us is an object - useful in all respects. It remains to add that such a screen is useful not only in the nursery, but also in the office or, say, in the kitchen. If you don’t like chalk (it crumbles, after all), insert a magnetic board with a special coating into one of the doors, on which you can write with felt-tip pens.
  • 14. Everything is a head! The screen often acts as a headboard. Here, this idea is brought to its logical conclusion: the doors are covered with the same fabric as the bed valance and chair upholstery. But you can do otherwise - play in contrast, making the screen a central element of the interior.

Learning Theory

Answering the question of how to make a screen with your own hands, we can say that in its most general form it looks something like this: you need to make frames, then pull the material over them and connect the frames with hinges so that the screen can fold. In this case, usually the width of each screen cloth is about 50 centimeters, and their height is approximately 170-180 cm: it is precisely if these dimensions are observed that this element of the interior will be easy and pleasant to use.

It is also worth noting that a classic screen, as a rule, should have three or four separate parts, which are usually made from canvases of the same size and pattern. To create a screen with your own hands, you are more likely to need the following tools: a hacksaw, a drill, wire cutters and pliers. If you aim to create a model using metal structures, then you will need a hacksaw and a welding machine.

Let's try in practice

In order for our conversation with you about how to make a screen with your own hands to become concrete, you can write down the “recipe” for its “cooking”. So, you will need 6 blocks of wood, having a length of about 2 meters, and 6 shorter bars, from which the width of the screen will be formed. You will also need to purchase fabric in any color you like. In this case, you should start from the place where this screen will be located. So, for example, for a children's room, you can choose a more cheerful and bright fabric that will create a playful mood for the baby.

In addition, to create a screen with your own hands, you will need to prepare 4 door hinges: in the event that your accessory has three wings. Also, do not forget about the paint brush and varnish, with which you will put in order the frames for the screen. It is worth noting that when doing this work, you also cannot do without nails and a hammer or self-tapping screws. At the same time, some experts use a stapler for furniture and various elements of decorative trim.

The technique for performing the work will be as follows:

  1. You need to create a frame from the bars. To do this, we make 3 wooden frames, and then fasten them to each other with screws.

  2. We fasten the frames together with the help of door hinges. In order for the base for the screen to be completely ready, cover it with varnish and let it dry well.

  3. We cut the fabric to the desired size, while leaving 2 cm from each edge to the hem. Then the resulting blanks are carefully pulled onto the frames and nailed with a furniture stapler. It is very important that the fabric is stretched strongly and evenly. If desired, you can decorate the resulting screen with any decorative elements.

Otherwise, the hand-made screen is ready and you can put it in its place and enjoy its beauty and privacy.

The topic of this article is do-it-yourself screen.

As I said in my article, you can zone a room in various ways. Including with the help of a screen.

This is a very convenient option that allows you to change space at the speed of light! Especially if you have several screens of different designs (or the base of the screen is the same, and the panels (filling) are different). After all, the mood can also be different - and the world around should change accordingly!

Panels can be made of fabric, wood, plastic, stained glass.

It is necessary to proceed in the design of the screen not only from the style and color of the interior, but also from the functions that our screen should perform. If it is necessary to tightly fence off some part of the room, then it is necessary to choose less transparent materials. It can be wood, opaque plastic, opaque fabric (or light, but very tightly gathered), possibly a stained glass window.

If you only want to visually separate part of the space, then you can limit yourself to transparent materials, or even make a screen with decorative holes.

And if necessary, the screen can be safely set aside in a corner and free up space, for example, for a party!

You can make a screen quite calmly with your own hands. In addition, you will know for sure that no one else has a screen like yours! With this guide you will make it quite easy!

If you have children, this is a great opportunity to connect your child to the creative process of creation! Everyone will have fun and interesting! The main thing is to connect a little imagination!

You can safely use almost everything that you find at hand: bright shreds of colored fabric, old broken hairpins, pieces of leather (can be cut from an old bag), beads, beads, paints, various ropes, child's drawings, photographs, etc.

And if you feel the strength to do it - go ahead!

So, for the manufacture of a wooden frame, we need the following tools and materials:

  1. Directly the wooden planks themselves (we recommend taking pine planks 6 cm wide and about 2 cm thick). There should be 24 pieces: 1.70 m long - 12 pieces, 0.6 m long - 12 pieces. (or take 6 pieces of 1.2 m each).
  2. Designed for a screen with three wings.
  3. A simple pencil with a square.
  4. Joiner's glue with a paint brush.
  5. Varnish for wood.
  6. Sandpaper.
  7. The chisel is thin.
  8. Joiner's vice - 4 pcs. (It can be less, but then the process itself will take longer).
  9. A hammer.
  10. Hacksaw.
  11. Wood screws (D = 3 mm, length can be taken 1.5 cm). Approximately 100 pcs.
  12. Screwdriver (if any).
  13. Steel corners - 12 pcs.
  14. Loops - 6 pcs. or 9 pcs. (depending on the type of loops)

First.

So, we take our wooden planks, retreat on each approximately 6 look at the edge on both sides, mark a line parallel to the edge of the plank.

Note: These lines should be on the same side of the plank.

Second.

Along these lines we make a file with a hacksaw to the middle of the thickness of the plank.

Third.

We take a hammer and a thin chisel and make cuts (we remove the tree by about half the thickness of the plank) to the line we marked and file.

Fourth.

We take two long strips and two short ones, apply glue to the inside of the cuts and assemble the frame. We clamp the places of gluing with a joiner's vice and wait until the glue dries.

We do the same with the rest of the planks.

Fifth.

It is necessary to grind the resulting frames with sandpaper. Then coat them with wood varnish.

Sixth.

Now we take the corners and fix our frames with them in the corners.

SCREEN WITH SOFT LINED

1. Cutting the soft lining

A screen padded on both sides with a soft lining makes a very pleasant impression. Liners are cut out (again using a template) strictly according to the size of the board. Cut out two pieces of upholstery fabric with an allowance.

2. Attaching the soft pad

Lay the board with the back side up on the table or on the floor, and on it - a soft lining cut to size. Check if it matches the shape of the board. If everything is in order, attach the lining around the perimeter with fabric glue, starting from the bottom edge of the board. In the same way, glue the lining to the front side of the board.

WASTE SOFT LINER

A soft lining can be made from scraps of non-woven material, such as polyester, left over from other jobs.

To do this, you need to attach them to each other, sew them with a Christmas tree stitch and cut them out in the same way as a solid workpiece

3. Final operations Covering the boards with fabric over the lining, pasting their edges with decorative tape, fastening the hinges and connecting the boards to each other is performed in the same way as mentioned above.

REMOVABLE COVER (COVER)

So that the screen cover can be washed or easily replaced, it is made removable and attached with pushpins or staples only to the lower edges of the screen boards.

1. Measurement of screen boards

They disassemble the screen. Measure the height and width of the sections. If the top of the boards is figured, a template of the appropriate shape is made. The thickness and total length of the upper and side edges of the boards are also measured, starting from one of the lower corners through the upper edge and to the opposite lower corner.

2. Cutting fabrics

Two pieces of the same size are cut out of the fabric for each board (for the front and back sides of the boards), adding a 1.5 cm allowance for the seams from the sides and at the top edge.

From the side of the bottom edge of the board, an allowance of 5 cm is given, since the fabric will then need to be tucked up and grabbed. For each board, a narrow edge strip is cut out of the fabric, the width of which is equal to the thickness of the boards plus an allowance of 1.5 cm for the seams on each side, and the length is the measured incomplete (without bottom edge) perimeter of the boards plus 7 cm for the ends.

3. Sewing in the side trim

The strip of the side edging is pinned with the front side to the side and upper edges of the back of the cover with an allowance of 1.5 cm for the seam and tacked on. Slightly turn it on the front side to check the position of the pattern. After making sure that the pattern is located correctly, fasten the side edging. To prevent the fabric from bulging, cuts are made on the allowance at all corners and roundings every 2.5 cm. In the same way, the side strip is sewn to the front of the cover.

4. Mounting the cover on the board

Turn the sewn cover right side out and put it on the board, pulling it down tightly so that there are no wrinkles. The side corners of the cover are turned up from the side of the bottom edge of the board (as when packing a parcel), the edges of the front and back parts of the cover are folded over to the bottom edge of the board, while slightly tucking the upper visible edge. Once again making sure that the cover is pulled tight, fix the gates on the bottom edge of the board with push pins or staples. A similar operation is done with other sections (boards) of the screen. Decorate the visible edges of the boards with decorative tape. Connect sections to each other on loops.
