Flower investigation: what is the name of a plant with a green stem without leaves? Indoor flowers catalog with photos and names Photos and names of decorative indoor plants

Dear flower growers! Help me identify rastyukha, I noticed with colleagues at work. They don't know what it's called, jokingly calling it "skeleton". He really looks like him: on a bare green stem, small leaves are occasionally found. I want to root, but nothing happens. So I would look on the Internet how to handle it, but a lot of things appear on the word "skeleton", but it's not that.

M. (Orenburg)

In the people, two plants are called "skeleton": firstly, this is (Hatiora salicornioides), it is also called "dancing bone cactus", and, secondly, tirucalli spurge (Euphorbia tirucalli).

Judging by the photo, you are trying to tame spurge tirucalli. This friend is from Africa. Today it is found in the Arabian Peninsula and in the arid regions of India. In nature, this tree grows up to 10 meters in height. Leaves practically do not grow on it, and they do not need them. Photosynthesis is produced by green stems.

Like any spurge, it is poisonous. But its fruits are eaten by monkeys, they find them quite tasty. However, in home floriculture, spurge rarely blooms, even less often it comes to fruits.

As a houseplant, tirucalli has recently been grown, but very actively. Indeed, the unusual appearance of a succulent gives charm to both a city apartment and an office space. But I would not recommend getting him as a pet.

Euphorbia Thirukalli is DANGEROUS TO THE HUMAN BODY

Some mistakenly believe that spurge tirucalli is a folk remedy for cancer. But that's not the case at all. Numerous medical studies have shown that the plant is harmful to the human body.

Thus, spurge tirucalli suppresses the immune system, thereby contributing to the development of latent human diseases. Scientists were interested in the fact that in African countries, where this milky plant is used as a medicine, people often suffer from Burkitt's lymphoma. It has been found that the population is often a carrier of Epstein-Barr herpes virus, which scientists believe is the cause of Burkitt's lymphoma.

In addition, scientists have found that spurge contains phorbol esters, which are also called "tumor promoters." This means that in combination with a number of harmful factors (for example, the action of carcinogens), the risk of malignant tumors increases.

CARE, BREEDING

But if you are convinced that you can observe all precautions, I report that the plant is unpretentious. It is easy to grow it. Care is the same as for all succulents: rare watering, the soil is air and water permeable, bright sunlight (but without fanaticism).

Propagated by cuttings. Having broken off a branch, put it in water for several hours so that the milky juice escapes, then dry it well, and now root it in a sand-earth mixture.

INTERESTING FACT

At the end of the 20th century in Brazil, the Petrobras oil company became interested in the research of Calvin, who claimed that oil could be extracted from milkweed. He even calculated that from one acre of land on which tirucalli grows, you can get 10-50 barrels of oil. But how the matter ended is unknown; no other information about the project could be found.

For the first time, unusual and flowering plants began to be grown in pots or greenhouses in the era of the Great Geographical Discoveries. Today, indoor flowers, a catalog with photos and names of which in paper form can fit in several cabinets, are a passion for millions of people around the world.

Video: 70 indoor plants in my interior

Hello dear readers! It is often impossible to create ideal conditions for plants in a room. The air in the rooms is often too dry, lack of sunlight, drafts. All this is a detrimental environment for many types of whimsical indoor plants, especially for representatives of exotic flora. Lack of attention, not fertilizing, irregular watering, and other mistakes we make out of inexperience are killing our potted pets. And we sadly look at the drooping stems of the ruined flower, which has become close to our hearts.

So I want to prolong the feeling of summer, create harmony in the house, an aura of comfort with the help of indoor plants. Do not deny yourself this. And settle in the house unpretentious indoor plants that can withstand unbearable conditions for other plants that require minimal care. So what are unpretentious houseplants photo and their name.

Indoor flowers that do not require a lot of light

Aspidistra

For those who wish to facilitate the process of caring for indoor plants, Aspidistra is suitable. This ornamental deciduous plant, able to grow even in dimly lit rooms, even prefers shade, especially in hot weather. Aspidistra suffers from direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Aspidistra is not afraid of temperature changes, so for a long time it can grow on a balcony, terrace, winter garden.

Initially, Aspidistra was bred for gardens and parks, so its selected reduced copy retained increased endurance to adverse conditions. Aspidistra is a cold-resistant plant that is not afraid of drafts and dry air. All care consists in moderate watering, in the summer 2 times a week and spraying the leaves, in the winter once a week. But without watering for some time the plant will be able to withstand. Transplant no more than once every three years. The plant is not demanding on fertilizers, but watch out, if the leaves have faded, began to grow more slowly, then there may not be enough top dressing.

Aspidistra is surprisingly beautiful in lush color, when its wide, long leaves open up in rays in all directions. The British called Aspidistra the "iron plant", emphasizing its stamina and endurance. The plant is ideal for those who are constantly on the road, because rare watering and dry soil will not harm the plant.

Cissus antarcticus

Another lover of darkened rooms. Another name for Cissus is homemade grapes. Indeed, it is easy to confuse it with grapes, because its branches resemble vines, and the shoots have tendrils. Despite its name, Cissus antarctic comes from the tropics, and unlike its fellow Cissus rhomboid, does not tolerate direct sunlight at all. Cissus antarctica is ideal for dimly lit rooms.

Never leave it on the windowsill, the best place for it is inside the room. Cissus is resistant to temperature changes, resistant to pests. Watering is moderate. Cissus does not tolerate stagnant water in the soil, so infrequent watering will only benefit the plant. Cissus creepers will be a good decoration for any home, they can beautifully wrap around the handle of a basket, can fall down from shelves, from cabinets, they make green racks of amazing beauty.

ficuses

One of the most unpretentious indoor plants, striking in its vitality. There are many varieties of Ficus, and all of them are undemanding to care for. Ficuses are indifferent to dry air, irregular watering, put up with a lack of light. At the same time, Ficuses work non-stop to improve the air in the room, absorbing toxic volatile substances such as phenol, benzene and trichlorethylene, giving in return useful biological substances that help cope with insomnia and depression. A variety of species, foliage colors, shapes, sizes allows you to choose the most suitable Ficus for your home.

Sansevieria

The people are more famous as "Pike tail", "Teschin tongue". A plant with striped leaves stretched upwards does not suffer from a lack of light, it can be placed even in those parts of the house where the sun's rays occasionally fall, such as a corridor. Although bright lighting will not harm the plant. He is not afraid of unventilated rooms. The plant itself is a source of clean air in the house, absorbing unpleasant musty odors. Therefore, when leaving, feel free to leave Sansevieria indoors.

Sansevieria is able to endure everything from which many plants would die. Irregular watering or its long absence, dry air, drafts - Sansevieria is all for nothing. However, there are certain rules of care. It is not recommended to flood the plant, the roots may begin to rot, you can not pour water into the center of the plant outlet, watering is carried out only in the soil, it is periodically necessary to wipe the leaves with a damp cloth, transplanting every 3-4 years. However, Euphorbia does not like drafts. In summer, the plant is watered once a week, in winter it is enough once a month.

One of the most popular species of Euphorbia is the "Christmas Star", another name for the poinsettia, which blooms on Christmas Eve. Plant care is minimal, even a novice florist will master it. Bright direct rays of the sun can leave burns on the leaves of Spathiphyllum. He loves diffused dim light, partial shade will also suit him. Loves moisture and spraying at any time of the year.

Despite the fact that the plant is moisture-loving, re-watering is possible only when the topsoil dries. In winter, watering is minimal. Spathiphyllum will normally survive the absence of watering for some time. If, after a long drought, you start to water it abundantly and regularly, then the plant usually blooms. But if before leaving you notice a fresh bud, then it is better to cut it off, so Spathiphyllum will survive the drought better. Spathiphyllum is a heat-loving plant, drafts and sudden changes in temperature are dangerous to it.

Peperomia

Another unpretentious indoor plant, which is ideal for indoor microclimate. The plant will be a wonderful decoration for your home, it is compact, undersized, fit even on a narrow windowsill. Watering should be moderate, repeated only when the soil dries.

Surprisingly, Peperomia, a resident of humid forests, normally tolerates dry apartment air. But if you want to please your pet Peperomia, then give her a tropical rain from a spray bottle. Brazilian Peperomia loves heat very much, so drafts and temperature changes are not her element. Read more about the types of peperomia in the article.

There are 13 presentations in total in the topic

I met them for the first time in my childhood in the botanical garden and was very surprised: it was October outside, windy, cold, rainy, the leaves had turned yellow for a long time, and then spring flowers. “These are specialists, spring flowers were forced to bloom in autumn!” gardener's thoughts...

It turned out that these are not botanists, but nature once again makes you wonder. These plants are called colchicum(Colchicum) because the main part of species and varieties has a very unusual development cycle: leaves appear immediately with seed pods in spring, seeds ripen in early summer, leaves turn yellow and die, the plant sleeps in summer and flowers without leaves bloom in autumn.

Colchicums, or colchicums (the name is given according to the area where several species of this flower grow) are corm plants. Their corm is 5-6 cm in diameter, covered with a dry brown shell.

In autumn, a 15-18 cm perianth fused into a narrow tube with an elegant flower emerges from the ground. Flowers appear completely without leaves, for this feature, the British call the plant "naked lady."

Colchicum is an unusual flower not only in terms of its development cycle. He made a significant contribution to science. Substances - alkaloids - were isolated from the plant, during the study of which a new section of organic chemistry was formed. And in genetic engineering, thanks to the colchicine alkaloid, methods have been developed for obtaining new plant varieties that are larger in size due to the doubled number of chromosomes.

Depending on the species and variety, one colchicum corm can produce a different number of flowers. They are simple or terry. And the color varies from white to all shades of lilac-lilac and pink. Also sometimes there are chess and striped varieties. On cloudy days, the flowers close and stand in beautiful glasses.

Colchicum blooms for about three weeks, depending on the weather: in hot autumn, the plant fades faster. Frost is not afraid, from them it can only lie down on the ground. Pollination occurs with the help of insects, the ovary is located in the corm, at the base of the flower tube.

And seed pods with round seeds at the base of the leaves will be visible only next spring. Therefore, another of the names of the plant is "son before father."

In the middle lane they grow well and do not require shelter b. Bornmuller, b. gorgeous b. giant b. autumn and b. dark purple

Fresh colchicum seeds can be sown immediately and get seedlings in the next season, and after 5 - 7 years - full-fledged flowering plants.

Leaves grow only in spring- oval-elongated, glossy, of a beautiful bright green hue, erect, about 30 - 40 cm tall. At the colchicum simultaneously with the development of leaves, a new, young corm grows, replacing the old one. Sometimes not one, but two or three new corms are formed. In June, the leaves begin to turn yellow, dry, and the plant goes dormant until September. At this point, colchicum is recommended to be transplanted.

Experienced Gardener's Advice! Plants can be transplanted at other times. Somehow I did not have time to dig them out in the summer and dug during flowering (it became not very plentiful - a sure sign in the colchicum that it was time to plant it). From one plot measuring 40x40 cm, I dug up half a bucket of corms with numerous thin roots. Some corms were small and had no flower stalks. I planted some of the plants in their original place, after replacing the earth there and adding compost with sand. The rest were planted in other parts of the garden. In spring, all planted plants gave leaves, and in autumn large bulbs bloomed together. experienced gardener advice.

When digging during the dormant phase, colchicum does not require storage of corms until autumn, they can immediately be planted in a prepared place.

They are buried at three corm heights and in a sandy "shirt" (it is desirable to put sand on top and bottom of the bulb).

When planting, you need to remember to pay attention to the correct location of the corm: plant with a long tube up, and with a beak-shaped outgrowth with a renewal bud (this is the future corm) down. Colchicum is planted in moderately rich soil.

In garden centers, colchicums appear on sale in August - September. On the shelves of shops you can often see germinated corms without roots, but with flowers. Do not be afraid to buy such plants - they are quite viable and when planted in the garden they will delight for more than one year. Moreover, when buying flowering corms, regrading is excluded. And corms placed in a vase without water can flourish indoors, you get a good composition. But it is better to plant them immediately in the garden.

Fresh colchicum seeds can be sown immediately and seedlings can be obtained in the next season, and after 5-7 years - flowering plants

There are a large number of species of colchicum - according to some sources, more than a hundred. Basically, they all bloom in autumn, but there are a few species that bloom in early spring. Colchicum has been known in culture since the 16th century.

In our gardens, varieties and hybrids of b. autumn (Colchicum automnale), b. magnificent (C. speciosum), b. Bornmüller (C. bornmuelleri), b. giant (C. giganteum) and b. dark purple (C. atropurpureum). In the middle lane, they grow without problems; they do not require shelter for the winter.

Personal experience

The most beautiful variety of colchicum, in our opinion, is the terry variety ‘Waterlily’ (obtained by crossing b. magnificent and b. autumn). It really resembles an exotic, bright, strong-double lilac-purple water lily.

However, other varieties add unusual colors to the autumn garden: what is, for example, a variegated hybrid variety Harlekijn‘, in which a transverse lilac stripe is visible on white petals, large lilac with a white center The Giant‘, slightly smaller in size Lilac Wonder or varieties with a dark purple “stalk”-perianth: Pink Goblet‘, ‘ Nancy Lindsay 1 , ‘ Drakes Form‘. Varieties with white flowers are also diverse: there is a terry Album Plenum‘, small b. autumnAlbum and twice as big b. fabulousAlbum‘. The latter has milky white with a greenish tint, like wax flowers of a perfect goblet shape, always attracting attention. Sometimes terry colchicum bloom later than simple ones, and white terry Album Plenum blooms later.

It is not easy to find a suitable corner in the garden for colchicum, since in summer there is bare ground at the place of their growth, and the yellowing leaves do not add decoration to the flower bed. You cannot plant them far from the edge of the flower garden - large plants will block these low flowers. And they do not like to grow in the shade. So it’s mono to land them in the second row of the mixborder - after the border plants (primroses, geyher, medium-sized hostas). Colchicums also look good under shrubs. Mono-planting is also possible - in spring it will be very bright green foliage, in summer you can put pots with annual flowering plants - petunia, alyssum, lobelia in the place where the corms sleep. And at the beginning of autumn, as soon as the crocuses begin to sprout, remove the pots and get a gorgeous flowering of numerous bright, large flowers, similar to spring ones.

It should be noted that colchicum are poisonous plants. Therefore, it will not be superfluous to use gloves when working with them. And like most poisonous plants, colchicum is medicinal.

It has been known as a medicinal plant since ancient times. Its healing properties are mentioned in the annals of Egypt, India, Greece. However, due to the strong toxicity, it is dangerous to use drugs containing colchicum on your own without a doctor's prescription. No wonder that in the Middle Ages, prescriptions for medicines that included this plant were classified. Just in case, it should be borne in mind: in case of poisoning with colchicum, the patient should be given enveloping agents, milk, tea, tannin solution.
